GTX 970 SLI vs single GTX 980 Ti

Hello folks,

I decided to upgrade my pc recently. I'll probably sell both of my old 970's and I decided to buy one single 980 Ti. Is the upgrade worth the hassle/price, because I read quite a few reviews of several gtx 980 Ti's and all of them mentioned that a single 980 Ti can match and in some cases outperform SLI 970's. And in some new games such as rise of tomb raider it is playable even at 4K and ultra settings.

So my question is, is the upgrade worth it, or should I wait another few months or possibly a year for new Pascal nvidia graphic cards? I know this is kind of a hypothetical question, but I read articles that the new pascal gk's will be 10 times faster than a maxwell card? I know you probably don't have answer for that, as I said it's more of a hypothetical question and we can only speculate about it now, but if that will be true than I would gladly wait another few months for those new cards.

What do you think?

Thank you.

Wait it out. 970 is fine, just lower settings some.

Yeah recently I had to turn off every possible AA in new games, such as hardline, division beta and the rise of tomb raider, but usually I can play most games on ultra settings at 1080p. So you say it would be better to wait a few months for pascal cards to arrive and then get rid of the 970's ?

it'd be a dumb move to sell them to get a 980TI which is pretty much equal considering it loses on others while wins on some. If you don't experience (see/feel) micro-stutter then SLI x70s are a better option, me.. I can't do that anymore so will always now go for the fastest single card.

I see, well I haven't experienced any micro stutter so far in any game but it was always a struggle to find working sli profile for new games, such as just cause 3, fallout 4 and so on...you have to find a workaround. I think I'll wait a bit to see if the new pascal cards are as fast as they claim. We'll see.

I'm a tinker and wanderer by nature, I saw that saying on the back of a Jeep and thought it just fit me, plus I'm a Tolkien nut.

Oh I thought it was either from an album name from Devildriver or from Tolkien smile.gif
