Earbuds for on the go, music and phone calls

Good evening OCN

I'm looking for a set of in ear headphones, preferably with a mic inline, that I can use. Budget is around $50-$60 USD, and if you give a convincing argument to go a little higher ($75ish tops?) then I might consider spending a little bit more than that.

I mostly listen to heavy metal (Born of osiris, lamb of god, periphery, the contortionist, tesseract, mudvayne) but I also listen to electronic music (Armin van buuren, infected mushroom, diplo, deadmau5, alunageorge, zhu, disclosure), rock/alternative (incubus, mgmt, breaking benjamin, audioslave, chevelle) and little bit of everything else except country, which happens rarely.

I use my LG G3 primarily, and use just google play music for my library now, as I haven't looked for another music player yet. Nearly all of my audio files are 320kbps, very few are below that. I currently don't have the storage space or time to re-rip my entire collection into FLAC, and currently am not sure I will.

I'll probably use my skullcandy headphones that this set will be replacing at the gym so no worries there, but definitely will se whatever set I get everywhere else.

I don't have a preference between dynamic driver, or balanced armature, but I really don't know the difference in terms or audio (read: never used balanced armature), but I understand the basics of the difference between the two.

I would like clear audio, and don't need super crazy bass for the electronica, but would like to know it is there, Also, some of the bass drops go pretty low, where my current headphones (and car speakers sadly) will lose the frequency essentially.

I can order from amazon, newegg, and can go to microcenter to pick these up.

Anything else, let me know, I'll post a set I was looking at shortly.

Edit for headsets:

Meeaudio M6 PRO
Meeaudio A151P

I do really like the wires that you pull up over and behind your ear, but that isn't necessarily a requirement.

Edit:

Had these once, returned them because of the incompatibility with android:

Klipsch R6i Black

Loved the sound of them though.

I do really like the wires that you pull up over and behind your ear, but that isn't necessarily a requirement.

I have a set of the M6 pros. I also have a love/hate relationship with them. When I can get them into my ear and get the seal right I really like the sound. However, if they move about at all or the seal gets broken they are harsh and lose all bass. May just be a fit thing for me but I haven't had trouble like this with other IEMs.

As for their customer service though...
My mic cable was DOA. I sent an e-mail and had a new cable in a few days. They paid for all the shipping too, which isn't always the case with an RMA.

What tips were/are you using? I was considering getting a set of comply's with them, if that would help. I find it odd that they would move much, do you put the wire up over your ears? I never had an issue with the last set had that was worn in that fashion.]

Thank you for the reply. Do you have any other thoughts on the other set(s)?

Edit: Do you prefer dynamic driver or balanced armature..?

so far I'm thinking about going with the A151P, as I've never heard a balanced armature driven headset (to my knowledge)

Unfortunately, I am not very familiar with iem's in this price range. However, I can recommend you look/post at head-fi.org, I think that there will be a lot of people around that can help you decide.

Ah yes, I've been meaning to look at that site, when I was looking at the difference in dynamic drive and balanced armature there were some links that came up there. thanks thumb.gif

It doesn't take much to unseal and these seem dependent on a really good deal to get the sound I want. You may have different results.

I use either the medium or large tips they came with. The comply tips I didn't like the sound with. The wires over the ears do help keep them in place but I'm still having issues.

Haven't tried any BA sets either.

What price range do you look at for IEM's?

I bought the Shure SE846's 13 months ago. I intended to buy ciem (custom in ear monitors) and I needed a pair of decent iem's to overcome the time in between the ear measurements, manufacturing and shipping. At first I was totally turned off by them, since I could not get them in my ears. After trying other foams it turned out that they fit perfectly in my ears. I think I am very lucky to get such a good seal. I wanted to order the Noble K-10's, but I stayed with the Shure's. At twice the price of the 846's the K10's are not twice as good. Once you reach a certain level on audio equipment the law of diminishing returns kicks in. The K10's are wonderfull, better in some area's, and in some not.

Damn, those are pricey. Enjoy though!

Well, I've got all of 1 recommendation so far in my thread on Head-Fi that I started.
