For comparison, the Fiji chips were going around for 70-75k. So these are close to 2.5x that. Would be pretty amazing if it's the big daddy Pascal.

I hope you're correct. Pascal in April would be amazing. Thank you.

It's not just a want, it's a need. 1440p 144hz is what a lot of us run now, and the 980 Ti isn't nearly enough to power this res. Hopefully I can wait for the 1080 Ti or whatever it's called, but wouldn't be surprised if I jump the gun on big Pascal.

They got us right where they want us, time to spend some moneys

OCN sure needs a better reading at http://semiaccurate.com/fullyaccurate. I know people just get mad because Charlie rants at their preferred company, but he has facts to back up his opinion. He even predicted that Kepler would win the first rounds vs GCN. I didnt see people bashing him that time. This forums sometimes reeks of confirmation bias (people desperate to dig in Zauba orders to see for a possible Pascal candidate, dismissing that the CEO lied to their investors with the PX board and no new silicon was being shown).

It is ironic how high a mindshare Nvidia has over the gaming segment, yet this will be another round of that segment getting shafted waiting for consumer cards while GP100 orders are satisfied in the HPC market first.

I wholeheartedly agree. Many modern games hit the 20-40 fps range @4k with the current top cards. A lot of eager gamers right now waiting to jump on the first card from either sides.

When you start relying on "statistics" to claim someone is wrong more than right as some kind of lame argument against what they're saying... you're basically saying "yeah, but that one time when he claimed dogs could fart mentos he was wrong". Its referencing to anecdotal events not data.

Frankly I'm certain nVidia has pascal taped out and produced in some form. I can see the only reason we've NOT actually seen it is because it doesn't work right. 28-16nm is a tricky re-scale. When intel went from 22nm to 14nm it was "2/3" and AMD's drop from 28 to 14 is "50%" but when you're dealing with 4x7 to 2x8 you're dealing with "56ths" and statistically that's much much harder to do.

nVidia was shown to be holding up a pair of 980m on a board claiming that pascal was the new super-driver chip and they showed a purely rendered "HBM" device that not only was just rendered but also only had 2 layer thick HBM chunks on it that were much much larger footprint than HBM memory (much more like intel's experimental balpack equivalent they're playing with on Knights) that was rendered then apparently lost because they then distorted the image to place a pen next to it.

So we've not seen Pascal at all, nobody's seen Pascal. We had records in December of AMD chips moving and nVidia never bothers to hide theirs.

So I used news.google.com to search for "nvidia pascal" and came up with https://semiaccurate.com/2016/02/01/news-of-nvidias-pascal-tapeout-and-silicon-is-important/ which explains that the whole order is testing equipment which is not something you order for bulk QA... its stuff you order because all your wafer-babies are dying strange deaths and you're trying to find the problem.

It's more like "remember those 15 times he said that dogs could fart Mentos? Well let's take this with a grain of salt". Assuming he has been wrong more often than he's been right (I'm not sure because I don't really follow him much).

Sadly he has been more right than wrong. But people has been too emotionally attached to a company and now cant digest any possible bad news based on just some analysis and common sense.

Doesn't even matter whether you're 25% of the time right, 49% right, 51% right, 75% right.

As long as you disclaim the likelyhood of your prediction being right, as adequately low.

To make a balanced estimate of the cridibiliy of this piece of news, we'll have to investigate the facts for what they're worth, anyhow.

That's for sure.
I went ahead with the 980Ti.
Actually I was supposed to get one for Christmas but "Open Box Special" at modern retailers means "Faulty Product Returned and Not Tested".
"Sigh"

Anyway, I'll be skipping everything Pascal, and probably the next round too. Nvidia can take their sweet time, I'm going to get at least three years out of this thing.
I have to wonder if the massive swaths of people with a 970 aren't thinking the same? (Not three years, but still have no intention to jump on a new card any time soon.) I went from vanilla 560SLI at about $130 per card, to a 980Ti, because my regular "value upgrade" schedule got utterly wrecked by perpetually high GPU prices and the gimped 960.

Charlie typically receives a lot of insider info in the industry, more so back in the day (up until early 2013 he practically had moles inside AMD, for example). What he does with it is the questionable part.
