[sa] News of Nvidia’s Pascal tapeout and silicon is important - Page 3

Then again, Kepler is getting left behind in certain titles, now that Maxwell is around.

AMD just had worse issues with performance, around that time.

Can argue about semantics of being 'right' or not, but there seems to be some substance to the claim.

This forums sometimes reeks of confirmation bias (people desperate to dig in Zauba orders to see for a possible Pascal candidate, dismissing that the CEO lied to their investors with the PX board and no new silicon was being shown).

It is ironic how high a mindshare Nvidia has over the gaming segment, yet this will be another round of that segment getting shafted waiting for consumer cards while GP100 orders are satisfied in the HPC market first.

Hey man, the Nvidia RDF (reality distortion field) is in effect. People love to crap on Charlie when he mentions something they don't want to hear, but when he's right on the money (which is most of the time) people are either supporting him or suddenly quiet. People here will ignore this as usual and pretend that GP100 will actually arrive in April even though it won't. Can't wait to see the excuses when it's several quarters away. I mean if GP100 would be coming in April, why did they have a fake PX2 board at CES? I guess people just hate on him because they think he's an AMD fanboi or something even though he has taken AMD to task several times as well.

I remember how this forum reacted when I and others were telling them that DX12 was literally baked mostly from Mantle, but they didn't want to hear it. Then when it was basically confirmed suddenly everybody shut up.

Couldn't agree any harder with Charlie about the echo chamber tech sites though. 95% of them are totally worthless. This very forum trolled WCCF and a few other sites a while back with some mockup 6-core Kaveri or something and lo and behold, there were several articles made off it. All from a random incredulous forum post.

It really doesn't take a genius to realize that he is one. One that is almost worse than some users here on OCN. Also, you conveniently forget that quite a lot of the time, Charlie pulls info out of his rear end, just as much as those aggregate sites like WCCF do. Just because he gets some facts correct, doesn't mean his journalism is good. WCCF gets some facts correct too from time to time, but their journalism still sucks. I don't see why Charlie should get a pass. Anyone who has a level mind and isn't biased wouldn't give him a pass at all.

If Pascal fails, I'll just stick with my 980 Ti until NV comes out with a more competitive refresh or just wait for Volta. I'm in no rush to upgrade anyway.

What do you mean by competitive refresh? compete with whom?

That's garbage and you know it. I've seen articles where he slammed AMD into the dirt for stupid stuff they've done, some of which were published just last year. I've never seen him make anything up. I've seen him be off about some things but he always admits to it (it's not like stuff isn't always subject to change in this industry) when and if it does ever happen. For you to have the gall to even compare him to WCCF is laughable and shows you have no real clue what you're talking about. It's got nothing to do with bias and everything to do with ethics, integrity, and neutrality.

I mean comparing him to WCCF? Implying that he literally makes stuff up just to get pagehits? That's absurd. Charlie doesn't even run ads on the site and he doesn't care a bit about pagehits. In fact I remember last year and in 2014 when he -- several times mind you -- posted a lot of deliberately misleading stuff just for the sole purpose of pointing out which sites were lousy echo-chamber parasites. The funny thing is that it worked and he left several hints in said articles for people who have functioning brains to discover. The sites took the bait, copied the "info" from his articles and made themselves look incredibly foolish in the process.

Maybe that's what you thought you meant when you said "pulls stuff out of his bum". Just because it goes over your head doesn't mean he's a scam artist. I'm glad he trolls the way he does because it shows how terribad most of the so-called tech sites really are. Of course if you really honestly believe the conspiracy theories you're bringing forth, feel free to head over to the S|A forums and talk to him yourself about it, since he's recently started back to posting smile.gif.

Here, I'll elaborate for you, if Pascal ends up slower than Polaris and/or is delayed, I'll just wait for a refreshed Pascal that performs at least on par whatever the competition is offering at the time. If not, then Volta it is.

Refreshing architectures to improve the competitive positioning is of SKUs are nothing new. For example, going from the failure that was the GTX 480 to the more successful GTX 580, the latter a refresh of the former, both of which are based on Fermi.

Good point. The 480 was Meh, while the 580 was Genius. I loved my 580 Lightning, so if true... things will be interesting:
Old
780Ti : Decent (New Fabrication)
290X : Decent(Fabrication Refresh)
Current:
980 Ti : Brilliant (Fabrication Refresh)
Fury X : meh (Fabrication Refresh but new RAM, HBM)

Pascal ( New Fabrication and New RAM)....Who knows, possibly Meh???
Polaris : (New Fabrication, Updated RAM).. Possibly Brilliant

How do you figure 780TI was only "decent" compared to 980TI being "brilliant"? The 780TI was a machine that you could OC to the moon and back, there wasn't anything lacking there. 970 SLI punishes a 980TI even today still so not sure how it's a huge evolution or brilliant?

I won't bother trying to convince anyone here about AMD either way as this site is just a joke when it comes to AMD and the hate against them.

If AMD gets a better product than Nvidia, the people will get the Nvidia anyways or will wait until Nvidia releases a competitive product (as we can read a few posts back). I'm just shocked as how AMD is not an option to meny people. If it's better is better, period. God, the people really really have so much hate against AMD frown.gif
