Alternative to Gentle Typhoons? - Page 2

My suggestion is the EK Vardar F4-120ER, which is a pwm 120mm fan with an extended control range of 500-2200rpm. I have one in my spare pc and i'm very impressed with it, and I own 6 1850rpm GT's.

Sorry for the noob question. I just found out that I can actually control my GT1850 through speedfan and my system is pretty quite.

Now im wondering whats the advantage of having a PWM fan when my motherboard / external software can handle fan speeds accurately?

It solves the noise problem. However, the full load performance is still required and Ill consider either the EK F5 or the GT 2150.

Will the GT2150 be a decent upgrade from the 1850? My issue is that I have an ITX and my motherboard temps go upto 57C after 45mins of rendering. Perhaps at high speeds, the air will be pushed out of the vents on the sides of the case.

I think your problem might be more that the front panel of your case doesn't have enough venting, and the hot air is probably coming back into the case through the gpu hole instead of exiting out the sides of the front panel..try taking the front panel off a bit and see what that does for temps maybe.

If that does help maybe try taping up the gaps in the inside front of the case so that the air coming out of the rad can't get back into the case anywhere and has to exit through the front panel.

Whoopsie, my front panel is grilled sorta.

The CPU being at 77-80C for 45 min, I could feel the top of the case being warm. Just thought a bit more blast would help push out air. If it becomes too bad, Ill switch the fans so they push air out.

You do not have lots of room and I am going to guess the power supply fan is face UP. Maybe a fan on the side to force air into the system and over the VRM area may help.

I have air and a MUCH weaker system(i5 750 + GTX 650ti) in a similar case(SG05). My fan blows the air up and the power supply removes it. My front fan is intake instead of exhaust.

I wonder how the system would be with the rad as intake instead?

Strictly from a performance to noise standpoint, there doesn't appear to be anything that beats the Gentle Typhoon.

The Delta AFB series, the EK Vardar, are "near peers", although, in the case of the Vardar, as Dazmode has tested, it is outperformed by the Gentle Typhoon.

You can also mod the high speed Gentle Typhoons into PWm fans, as eHume has noted:

Will the GT2150 be a decent upgrade from the 1850? My issue is that I have an ITX and my motherboard temps go upto 57C after 45mins of rendering. Perhaps at high speeds, the air will be pushed out of the vents on the sides of the case.

Software uses voltage control, which is from the motherboard header. You have a limited number of headers and thus, a limited number of fans. The PWM signal allows you more accurately control the speed and always run the fan at the designed voltage. This allows for better control.

They also allow you to daisy the fans if you want and control them, which is not possible with voltage control (although I suppose considering the Gentle Typhoons draw so little current to begin with this is not as big an advantage). That said, the Gentle Typhoons still have their power draw on startup.

The 2150 rpm will only be perhaps 1-2C cooler at load. Higher speed fans have pretty rapidly diminishing returns past a certain point.

Check the fans I used in my build log thread, I did a lot of research, they are expensive but rated better than Typhoons for their class.
Not sure how they are doing lately but worth looking at.
