Does MSI afterburner Fan Profiles do anything?

I'd imagine there is a way, but on the other hand a manufacture would probably have locked this down to prevent damage.

what brand of laptop do you have bud? I have done this many times on various manufactures laptops. There are certain software you have to use depending on the brand.

HWinfo64 is one that works for many. You have to go into the settings and check 1 box, and uncheck another box. I'm not sure exactly which 2 options those are right now off hand, but some googling will answer that for you. I did it many times, but don't have it installed on my laptop now since I now own a MSI GT72. MSI laptops have a button on the side or top of the keyboard that you can push at any time and it sets the fans to 100% instantly.

Speed Fan is another program to use. There's a few others too that will work, just have to google a bit depending on your brand like I said. Also, just because you tried one and it didn't work, don't take that as it can't be done because I've found that once you find the right program, it can be done. Dame, I'm trying to think of the other one I used and it would work on just about anything. Hmm. If I remember it, I will post back for you.

Tell us the Manufacture of the laptop you are trying to control the fans on and I might be able to help you a little easier thumb.gif

No, MSI AB doesn't do anything for fan profiles on laptops that I've seen. Would be nice that's for sure lol. If things were just that easy ya kno LOL.

Ok, I'll see what I can find out, but there is nothing about what brand of a laptop you have in the OP at all. What are you talking about buddy?!? LMAO

All the OP says is "The GPU I have is a GTX 660m 2gb" , and if I click on the link that is there, it takes me to a page that is nothing / error. Just make it simple sometimes and "SPELL IT OUT" lol.

Have you tried HWinfo64? That would be my first choice to use if it works for your model. It worked the best for me and had no issues at all. It didn't give me lots of adjustment on the laptop I was controlling, but it gave me 50% or 100% on the slider and just putting it to 50% on both the cpu and gpu made a huge difference in temps. I couldn't hear it any more than using the stock auto fan setting that the laptop came with. My gpu and cpu temps were around 85-90c while gaming on auto settings. When I put both on 50% it dropped to around 70-80c gaming, and 100% dropped to 60-70c gaming. The 50% was best and I would just enable that if I was going to game for more than 15min. If I knew I was gaming for the next hour or few, apply 50% and have temps a lot less and don't hear a thing.

Also, if using 50% for you works better than auto, and it keeps your temps where you like, it's better that the fan sits at 50% then it is if it's going up and down and up and down lol. That noise can be annoying sometimes and also isn't as good for the fan bearings.

Like @Hambone07si said, use HWinfo and use the little fan tool to control your system fan. You'll also likely have to set the respin value to 100 since once its enabled the motherboard bios will try and take over so HWinfo has to constantly update the speed to your 0%-50%-100% settings. I use it sometimes for my laptop, however, when your on battery power, I can typically force it to 0% since I've got all my power savings enabled, however, with my laptop it'll randomly lock up so there's an issue somewhere where it doesn't quite work. I haven't encountered an issue forcing it to 100% though when gaming, you might get a noticeable fan RPM's going up and down from the respin values, it might be annoying. Also, you might want to look into a cooling pad. I had a cooler master cooling pad and it dropped my temps a good 5-7C on both CPU and GPU.

Not that anyone knows thus far.

The Y580 suffers the same fate as the y400/410p/500/510p where there is no direct fan control.

The best bet you have is to look at the Energy Management script that is available online which will cycle the full fan speed, and I do mean cycle.
