[YT] AMD Wraith - AMD's New Beefy Box Cooler - Page 4

Didn't AMD bundle water coolers with some of their 8 cores processors, what happened to that? Why did they come up with this?

This has to be one of the most misguided companies I have every seen in my life.

Do you really think they designed it in their R & D? They probably got a contract with some company which makes them and they just slapped their name on it.

Wasn't terrible in that it actually moved air and performed the task it needed to.

Nor does it seem to really add much value to the customer. If you wanted to OC the thing you still have to purchase an after market cooler anyway, and people who were going to run the stock cooler tend not to care or even know whether it's running at 60c or 65c or 70c or whatever.

Now if AMD were a market leader with strong financials maybe they could afford to take a shot at something like this, but for a company in their financial position, trailing their competitors in almost every measurable way, this just seems like a really weird\poor allocation of resources.
Relying on the apathy or stupidity of the consumers as justification to cut corners or not to innovate sounds like an even poorer tactic to me.

Yeah well, it's an AMD hate marathon apparently.

- AMD puts out open standard FreeSync and an alternative to hairworks.
People hate them for being less optimized than closed source Nvidia solution.

- AMD lowers prices on Fury X and Fury.
Must be because of those crappy pump noise AIOs.
Fury lowers in prices? That's about time!

- AMD includes better stock cooler.
Bad business decision.

Poor AMD.

I have to say, its about a 25% bigger heatsink, and its fan is providing 34% more airflow ( per WCCFtech article). Yet both the old and new have a supposed 125 watt rated TDP. Wut?

Fair play to them for improving it though, it does look much better then the old.

Very nice AMD, I hope this is a sign of things to come, better products all around.

Looks like the biggest change is the fan. That was the biggest problem with the AMD coolers, the fans were really noisy.

This may not be the BEST cooler for the CPU, but it will be pushing air directly across the motherboard like their are supposed to. Good news for the VRMs. thumb.gif
