Article under discussion is about a Zeppelin-Vega with HBM on an MCM (interposer) consisting of 16 cores/32 threads, what used to be called a Greenland GPU and HBM memory. This device in the article under discussion in this thread is an APU.

Why are you guys so horrible at spotting details?

The picture in OP confirms that Greenland aka the biggest 400 series GPU got HBM1 not HBM2

500GB/s just like Fury X

An unofficial slide from site named FUDzilla? Seems legit.

This whole thread is about that slide.
Pretty silly to believe one part of it but not the other.

Or maybe its because it didnt turn out the way someone wanted and suddenly its not interesting anymore for an obvious reason.

The article under discussion is conflating rumors and getting it wrong in the process. If this was solely about the APU, it would mention 16 cores, not 32.

2-Hi HBM2 would be 500GB/s.

Until you do most of the tasks that aren't gaming or media consumption. Or maybe gaming will actually see the benefit once DX12 and Vulkan start taking off.

Hopefully this 32 core behemoth is coming from AMD obtaining access to a smaller manufacturing process than needing to rely on more cores to beat Intel's server CPUs again.

More cores isn't an inherently good thing. If you can get the same amount of power from a 20 core Intel CPU compared to a 32 core AMD/Zen CPU, the choice isn't hard to make.

I'm not sure why so many people are questioning 32 cores. Yeah, there's diminishing returns on most operations, but considering that IBM has 4x12 core POWER8 systems and Intel has 4x18 core Xeon systems (and AMD has 4x16 already), I assume that there are people out there who can use that many cores at once - you don't make $7000+ chips if you don't have a market for them, and you don't buy 4 of them per system if you aren't going to use them.

IMO, a super-APU with 32 (or even 16) cores and a 4+ TFLOP GPU with HBM is fairly obviously an HPC part, where clusters with thousands of cores are not exactly unheard of (Titan has nearly 300,000 x86 cores, and Sequoya has over 1,500,000 PowerPC A2 cores. Tianhe-2 has over 3 million, but I think the Xeon Phis might be throwing that number off). Super-APUs plus AMD/RTG's recent compute projects, like the Boltzman initiative, show that AMD is really trying to push into the HPC market. More market share there would be very, very helpful for them right now.
