I won't deny there are some technologies that seem to be completely missing. The one I noticed the most was the snow melting.

Lighting as a whole looks totally different than E3 but I'm having a really hard time telling if its worse or just different and I like the E3 look better, E3 just looks more vibrant.
The videos I am referring to show each and every setting at the maximum value.

The reason the lighting looks different is because they got rid of dynamic reflections. Once the scene is incapable of lighting itself, artificial light sources have to be added with God rays to mimic directionality.

Maybe I'm understanding it wrong but I'm positive I was seeing lighting and reflections based off of grenades and stuff.

You do, but they're not accurate to the scene. If you stare at the reflections, you'll start to see objects that shouldn't be reflected. Like a lampost behind a puddle, or the sun when there is no sun in the sky. It is all fudged and blurred to make it look like actual dynamic reflections and shadows without having the actual GPU hit You'll see an image of your character's shadow on the wall and say "That's an awesome dynamic shadow. I see my guns, it moves when I do.". But the shadow is so blurry it could be any male character without a helmet (and likely is), and guns can be made to look very similar by hanging them on the character skeleton just right.

The Division is mostly smoke and mirrors. Like a magic show, the result looks beautiful. But if you look behind the scenes or know when not to be distracted by the "shiny", you see there is no technical wizardry in the end result. The actual graphics technologies debuted at E3 with this game are noticeably absent and replaced with much lower quality, easier to create in house and easier on the PC substitutes.

Thanks for explaining it like that. I'll have to take a look when it comes out cause I won't lie I had a blast and am looking forward to it.

I still love how the character closes car doors when you walk by them in cover

Massive downgrade compared to E3. Check the PC beta vs PS4 video by Digital Foundry. Console parity is going to be the norm on every future multiplatform games. Sadly. mad.gif

Both console AND pc gamers were misled, but actually mainly consoles gamers.
When they first showed gameplay footage it was with a guy holding a PS4 controller and the game actually wasn't announced for PC back then. It needed a petition to make them bring it to PC.

PC version is still way better than the console version ever could be.

It is a shame that Ubisoft once again showed footage that looks better than the actual game, like they did with Watch Dogs, but it is common practice by now.

Yeah, PC is the best because of no FPS or resolution caps. Still pisses me off that I've spent about 5 times more on my monster PC to get offered games that look far worse than what they originally intended, since they are being held back by the lowest common denominator.

Have you played the beta?

I played it and they definitely put a lot of time into the PC version. It runs great and looks great. Not as good as the E3 trailer, but still good and it has a billion options. You can even mod it. You can run it at 4K. It is better than the console version in every possible aspect.

You know how the game would look if they made it a PC exclusive? If they put all that work into making the game look like you wish it would?

It wouldn exist, because it wouldn't be profitable. PC sales are not good enough. The game is coming out because people buy consoles and console gamers love to buy games for 60$ and spend lots of money on DLC and microtransactions.

If you feel that way then you may not want to support the devs that create those games. If enough gamers ignore them, they'll listen. Ubi isnt releasing a new asassins creed this year for a reason.
