You know what? Youre right it seems games from the last year are using more threads. Although I dont think it would be a big downgrade gaming-wise, certainly it would be stupid to do.

Generally, single thread performance is still very important as I understand it a lot of games are using one main thread and offloading other tasks to the rest, more level 3 cache is beneficial as well. Otherwise we'd be seeing FX 8 cores hanging with the I7's, not I3's, and sometimes I5's.

It's not clear if more then 8 threads helps yet though. I'd like to see some tests with a 6600k and 6700k with the fastest RAM you could get to work on it at highest average overclock vs a 5820k with the same. I'm obviously talking about pure gaming here

But ASSUMING that a 1920x1080p monitor could get NO HIGHER than 144 FPS with vsync off, and would average 144 FPS with a fixed CPU load and you were 100% purely video FILLRATE limited (taking the CPU out of the picture), then 1920x1080@144 FPS would be "about" equal to 2560x1440@90 fps

If somone says something stupid, perhaps do the courtesy of correcting it without throwing insults, that way there's less stupid in the world. I know its rare to find that in these forums sometimes, but I can hope.

EDIT: Sorry for OT OP redface.gif

Put up a poll maybe, my vote would go to 144hz (assuming you mean 144p 60hz), it seems newer games/architechtures dont take too much of a hit from the increase of pixels, look up the single game reviews :

I like the idea, I added a poll.

Technically speaking, 144 fps @ 1080p is 298598400 pixels (approx 300 million) and 1440p @ 60 hz is 221184000 (approx 221 million).

Theoretically, 1080p @ 144 Hz (144 fps) is 1.35x more demanding that 1440p @ 60 hz.

Now, there's much more to it than that like single and multi core performances, which need to be taken into account.

Okay so now Im pretty sure 144hz is more demanding.
But what is the one you should go for?
I know 144hz is kinda faster paced (Never tried it)
and 1440p is a better resolution (Looks better, I use a 1440p Imac in my engineering class.)
I changed the poll and title to what is the better choice 1440p or 144hz because there probably are people who can't afford or handle both.
I'd never go back to 1080p. Go for a decent 2560 x 1440 monitor like the BenQ BL3200PT, which I'm actually considering trading my 2560 x 1440 144 Hz IPS monitor for.

That monitor for gaming? Or for modeling, 3D editing, photoshop kinda stuff?
I am going be using programs like Inventor for modeling and designing in 3d other than gaming.
I think Im gonna go with triple 1080p 60hz monitors
I will have to spend $200 and I will have 3 decent monitors.
Gaming should look good across three screens and I will have to deal with one when its a very demanding game but then work productivity should be great!
Im using one these right now
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-E2414H-24-Inch-Widescreen-Backlit/dp/B00DM65EH8/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1454733071&sr=1-1&keywords=dell+e2414h

I got it for under $100 and I think I could get 2 more for the same price, what do you guys think?

I mean in my engineering class I use a 1440p ips monitor for my work and its amazing but its expensive and I think might not be worth the price tag unless someone can convince me otherwise.

Triple screen isn't that great for gaming. Productivity is another thing. Nothing beats having 3 or more physical monitors to work off of. Even 4k can't replace the convenience of having 3 monitors. Now for gaming, after going 1440p I would never go back to 1080p. After moving to 4k I never want to go back to 1440p. So, yea.

Personally, I'd look into to a 1440p middle screen, and two 1080p screens for the sides and forget about gaming across 3 screens.

I could get just one more of the 1080p monitors I have right now and have the two for the sides .
The 1440p would be best for photoshop, video editing and my modelling, design work.
If that's the best Idea I just have to figure out what monitor to get for the middle one.
I saw a 27inch curved ips dell monitor for around $330 I think that would be a fair price if that's a good monitor.

Not sure off hand which one to suggest.

Do think you'd be pretty happy gaming on a 1440p with the two 1080p's for extra desktop space.

Not sure how much you've messed with multi monitor setups. I personally used the side monitors like extra desk space. I'd work off my middle monitor. I'd then place things I wanted to reference, or have easy access to on my right monitor. I normally used my left monitor for computer vitals.

As for triple screen gaming, it's really hit and miss. Most games end up just stretching out the image on the two side monitors. This can make judging the speed of objects moving on those screens tough in fps. In 3rd person games I found myself wanting more vertical space. Turn based strategy games worked pretty well on them. Civ 5 stands out as a game that I liked running on triple screen.
