AMD Zen Build Fall 2016

Thread Starter
Here we go! Ok I know at the time of this post that I'm getting way ahead of myself, but I want to stretch out the cost of this build prior to the release of the Zen CPU's . I've been watching these WC rigs evolve for years now and I'm ready to dive in and give it a go. I'm really doing this build to accomplish two goals. 1st goal: Gain as much performance with overclocking without putting my components in the danger zone as far as temps go. 2nd Goal: build it beautiful (just like square space), I want this rig to be the most ascetically pleasing computer that I have ever built!

So being a WC virgin I will have questions, probably lots of them, and I will probably post ideas or designs that will make you want to unregister from ocn.net. But I'm completely open to advice, criticisms, flames, death threats, and propositions! I don't offended easy and I'm wanting to learn how to do this WC business right. So below are the specs of this build as of the creation of this thread, I will strike and replace items as they are changed are modified. Hopefully by the end of 2016 we will have a finished build that is amazing and bloody fast! Thanks in advance to all of the OCN members who make this site amazing, I couldn't have done any of this without your help! This community is great and has been my single source for information since 2007! OCN you rock! thumb.gif

So I have the case bought (ebay $80 score) and it will arrive next week, from there I'll be able to start measuring for my radiators hoping that what I have selected with work out. With a total of 3 blocks, and 2 rads I'm wondering If my single D5 pump idea will pan out. I don't want to lose cooling performance due to a pump that can't handle my loop. I checked out "Martin's Flow Rate Estimator" but it seems to be dated so I did the best estimate that I could an it came out with a flow rate of 1.24 GPM (I supplemented a second gpu block to simulate the SSD block). What do you guys think, one pump enough?

I have a bid on a GPU but the R9 390 doesn't officially have a ek wb for the series, and in doing some research it looks like it's all going to come down on what inverter chip is on the card as to if a mod will be necessary. If I win the card and find out the fate of my wb for it I will be moving my priority over to tubing and fittings. I will be trying to figure out witch diameter will work the best for me. I do know for sure that it will be soft tubing and black (black is good). I'm open to suggestions on tubing and fitting size. Once I get that nailed down, I'll start designing the loop logically, and I will need tons of help with that. Thanks!

A single D5 pump can handle that no problem. My rig is on a single D5 with 4 rads and 3.5 blocks (ram is .5 tongue.gif ) I wouldn't go with a bay res unless you plan on laying the case on its side, check the 540 owners thread for some ideas on stuff if you haven't already.

So I need to do some research to find out if the AM4 board will have support for m.2 pro. If that's the case then I might look that route. Better performance and a little bit cheaper. Plus it would save me the cost of a cooler and allow a cleaner loop!

Interesting...subbed for sure...
Are you open to rigid tubing? Either petg or acrylic. I think that would give much cleaner lines to your build than normal soft tubing

I would be however this is my first attempt at WaterCooling so I figured I should cut my teeth on the soft tubing (with a little more forgiveness) this time around.

Still doing some research on the intel 750 pcie vs the samsung SM951. I read this article but I'm trying to find some other resources that pin the two against each other. Thanks for the subs I hope this thing turners out a nice as it is in my head! thumb.gif

I can't find the link, but somebody caught wind of Zen APUs being shipped to India for testing and it looks like they're going to support DDR4 (most of them, the cheap ones will support DDR3), USB 3.1, and m2 natively. That's not surprising, when some motherboards for the current gen also support USB 3.1 and m2.

Is the new APU's going to be using AM4 ? I thought I read that AMD is trying to push all of their upcoming CPUs to the new socket. My case is in and looks great I'm going to start measuring for my radiators and get a layout constructed. I'll get that posted when created. This week I'm going to pick up my PSU since it's on sale, then following I will focus on WC parts. Thanks!
