[Build Log] Mediocre - A Mad Max inspired ghetto rig - Page 2

I am planning some kind of exhaust mod. I've got quite a few ideas for it which I need to think through.

I've also just ordered a much larger heat sink for the CPU and some of the parts for the fan controller and overvolting have arrived and I've got to work scuffing them up:

Nice and new thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Nice and dirty biggrin.gif

I'll be painting most stuff in the case to look like this, just age and weather it a lot, so far as a paintjob goes, I was planning some painting after it was all finished to make it dirtier and add some grafitti but the idea of battered hotrod colours does sound good. I think I would have to do that before the welding starts though.

I like this so much - insanity all around thumb.gif

one thing though;
drawing air to cool the cpu from outside the case might actually result in better temps ohno-smiley02.gif i guess we can't have that?

Finished painting and battering the fan controller:

Just set up the circuit to see if it all works and we're looking good, I've set the voltage to 18V at the moment, but I may increase it later:

Oh what a day! The heat sink arrived biggrin.gif

Slightly larger than the Hyper 212+

The old hood hole needs a bit of expansion though:

WHAT A LOVELY DAY! biggrin.gif

This German engineering is a bit safe though:

Time to open the top up... for... reasons

I know. That's actually why it's called mediocre.

This chipset only supports up to 6 cores unfortunately. It'd built to take a full ATX board however, so one day... Definitely!

In the mean time, the heat sink does at least have 8 pipes now biggrin.gif

Went to a car boot today and picked up this ancient piece of tech for £5:

Boasting the specs:
Celeron Single Core @ 2.2Ghz
256Mb DDR
60Gb HDD
and I believe it had an honest to goodness dial up modem! Takes me back.

I was expecting the insides to be an absolute horror story of dust and death, but it was completely clean. Judging by the screws on the back though, I don't think it had been opened in a long time.

Booted straight away with no issues too so I'm guessing it had just never really been used. Based on the Art Attack CD I think it was mostly used by kids a long time ago.

I'll shred the hard drive anyway, don't know what's on it, but I doubt it's been cleared properly.

But anyway, I wanted the CPU mounting and since I'm single, this is the cutest thing I'll be destroying this valentines day... *forever alone*

Once I'd cut it out I riveted it to the base of the case. I also found the hard drive mounting was easily removable and quite small, so I added that to the base as well.

Chrome, chrome, chrome. Silver spray paint at least.

I love the idea though, the builds on this site try to be super clean and many succeed. The scary dangerous looking build is a nice contrast. Punk rock, or bunk roach if you will.
