Almost the same price? Where did you find a H220-X for almost €80/$90? That would be a mad bargain.

The NH-D15 is 115 USD here, I bought my H220-X for 125.

The H220-X has been pretty hard to get over her in Europe, never seen it below €150.
Not sure where you live but €85 seems to be the price in Europe atm, and $90 seems to be the price in most of the US.

So, usually, I'd say they're not particularly in the same price class.

Those cases are a tiny niche. Pretty far from mainstream. This cooler is ridiculous.

You're not going to have any issues hanging it off a vertical motherboard. Its not that heavy.

So why is it ridiculous?

I don't care about how much it weighs. These coolers keep getting larger and larger. Where does it stop? When they cover your whole motherboard? Is it now for bragging rights? The size alone is a selling point? I have a NH-D14 and an even bigger PH-TC14PE and they are already too big. I replaced them both with a single tower NH-U14S.

You can get a smaller Scythe Ninja 4 and have very similar performance as a D15/D14

I was just pointing out the absurdity of this cooler. And the trend to bigger is better.

We'll never know until they test, and the trend actually seems to be towards low FPI monoliths.

The size is a selling point because a cooler with more surface area, if designed properly, will dissipate more heat. It's no different than a watercooler using a larger radiator on his setup.

If it's too big for your tastes, then it's not for you. There are other ways to get the job done that don't involve enormous heatsinks, but if you don't mind (or even like) how it looks and are looking to move a lot of heat off an overclocked CPU without spending a ton of cash or risking a water leak, then this is something to consider.

My personal opinion: I hate tower coolers. The size and the weight is just too much for me. Just a big hassle to try and install. Of course the AIO coolers can have issues with the pump and cost quite a bit more than the budget (but really good performance) tower coolers. If you compare them to an expensive tower cooler like this one (supposedly) or the NH that cost just as much as an AIO I don't really see how anyone would choose a tower. Plus a water setup is just cooler.
