Asus Crosshair III Formula memory question

Thread Starter
So i have the above motherboard, yes a little old now but still a great board in my opinion, anyway i am/ was running Corsair Dominator ddr3 1600mhz memory was running 4 modules of 2gb, then one went bad last week loads of errors in memtest86 so now just running 3 sticks at 6gb.
Anyway my questions is i am going to get diffrent ram so can anyone with experience of this motherboard advise on what would be good compatible memory to go with thios board that would give me no hassle lol.

I have looked at the QVL memory list that Asus have on the site but to be honest is so old and very little on it, i was hoping some one that either knows or who has or had this board could advise would like to run 8gb can either be 2x4gb or 4x2gb makes no odds really not had any 4gb modules in this board yet and although Asus states can take 16gb so 4gb in each slot theres nothing on the QVL with regard to any 4gb sticks??

All and any help appreciated.

Asus and GSkill is what I recommend.
With a 1055T these should work fine.

Manually enter all the Dram specs listed on sticker on the Dram itself into bios.
Stress with some Prime95 Blend and maybe some HCI Memtest.

Hi sandman and thanks for the reply so you reckon rip jaws then yeah, and you reckon 2 x4gb modules then and that would leave me.room for upgrading in future, also would there be a big diffrence between 1333mhz and the 1600mhz? Just wondering the board does do 1600 but have to set in bios and is the max as its actually a 1333mhz happy board but injage the 1600mhz corsair in just now set to 1600mhz and these rip jaws will deff work ok yeah
post #6 of 16
Phenom II can handle 1600MHz with ease (max around 2000MHz on the 890 chipset). If for any reason it's an issue you can always lower freq and tighten timings.
I always go with the lowest Cas myself.

i've have an earlier version of these in a 870 board and have had no trouble with them in any 970 or 990 board i've put them in. they are 1.5v and cas 8 timings.

that said, i think most 2x4 kits will work as long as their a major manufacturer.

This board is the AMD 790FX Chipset i am sure from the spec list and i was really talking more about the boards compatibility than the phenom II tbh, just want to make sure that the memory i buy will work without issue basically and not having to buy a third set as the set i am planning on buying next wont boot or something lol.
appreciate the comments and help though guys!

i am also in the UK so was really looking to buy something in the UK and not from outside the country and yes if i can get guaranteed lower like a cas8 with better timings i would be all for that but here most places are pretty much all C9 where i look and 9-9-9-24 seems about the most common.

so you reckon the crucial ballistix will work out the box as well on this board
