Just figuring one child as your most likely stuck in the house if you can barely support the kid. Alot of assumptions here but I think this would be pretty telling why people cannot just take the hit on every title that they cannot return. I'm not going to argue niche cases that allow returns, I've been stuck with brand new releases in my hand that were broken on release and told they could not be returned. One reason I have no clue why people throw their money away on pre-ordering and on companies that consistently don't deliver. I think these people have no clue what it takes to earn a dollar for the average Joe.
a lot of that depends on location. if in the US then what state, county and even city.
this can help:
plugging in state/county where i live. (states are listed to the right)

a family of 3 (two adult and one child) is $45,360 before taxes. assuming 2080 hours of work yearly (40*52) that is $21.81 an hour.
if you want to add the $120 for buying 2 AAA games at $60 a piece there is also taxes on the wage of ~7.7% (45360/40289). so 120/7.7 would be an additional ~$158.45 for ($45519/2080) ~$21.89 an hour
where i live.
my maths suck but i'm sure its in the ballpark. Edited by looniam - 2/8/16 at 8:14pm
