Does mounting angle matter for a res or pump?

I bought one of these bad boys, https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-dbay-d5-pwm-incl-pump

I'm putting together an air 540 and I want to make an aluminum panel to house a Lamptron CW611 and this ek res in the back compartment of the case.

Obviously from the markings on the face of the reservoir, it is not designed to be positioned any other way than level horizontal. But... what if I wanted to mount it sideways with the front pointing up? I'm pretty sure all the fittings would still be submerged.. the fill cap would be rendered useless but I'm planning a fill cap nearby on the roof anyway so.. that doesn't matter much to me. I don't care about lines on plastic..

I think an up facing 3x5.25 bay here would look and function great for these units, especially with a little light underneath.

Unfortunately dimensions aren't posted on the depth of the dbay pwm so it's really all I have at this point, and I definitely have the space to work it.

What do you say?

There are really only two orientations that you can't use.
Facing down will place the pump upside down and run it dry so obviously that's a no no. On its left side the pump will be raised and the usable size of the res severely decreased before the pump will intake air, so that isn't a good idea.
On its right side is fine, as is on its back. On its back just imitates the standard layout of most tube pump res units with the res directly above the pump.

You will just need a g3/8 to g1/4 adaptor for the fill port.
On my old Koolance bay res I always tipped it on its back for filling and bleeding.

Thank you!!!
I also think that mounting this as high as possible in the air 540 will provide more than enough fitting space underneath the unit. I plan on building a 100% petg loop with no bent tubing. I also decided on an aquaero 6 XT instead of the lamptron because of the ability to expand the controller using the power adjust modules. I got one additional poweradjust module which I'm planning on mounting horizontal on my aluminum panel, as opposed to the controller and res being mounted vertical. I've got a build log going HERE if you're interested in helping me further.

Additionally, why would I need a 3/8-1/4 cap? The unit has two input 1/4 connections plus the 1/4 output on the pump right? So one for an LED, one for an input and one for an output, and the 3/8 which wont ever be touched. Would that not be adequate?

Oh yeah you don't need to use it. I just thought you mentioned connecting some tube to the fill port and was making sure you knew it wasn't the standard size.
On my old Koolance it had front fill ports but I quite often would just remove the whole front panel for filling to make it quicker and easier. With the res on its back it's just a giant fill port

I'll check out your log.

So going on your mention of the g3/8 adapter, I have one otw in the mail. I might adapt a g1/4 for a temp sensor plug but I was also thinking of making this the entry for the fill port.

If I were to mount the res in the "correct" horizontal position, could I then use the 3/8-1/4 adapter to run a line up to the case ceiling? ..It would be sealed with a threaded stop fitting.
It would mean that the fill port on the res was always open and would probably lower the air pressure inside the res, right? Considering all the extra volume of air attached to the res now.

Is increasing the internal volume of your reservoir bad at all? Or am I just over thinking. Do I need a levered turn off valve? Or.. it's probably good right?

Nah there should not be any pressure in the res to lower, and the bit of extra volume in the fill line is inconsequential. A normal stop fitting is all you need.
