[Gamespot] The Division PS4/Xbox One Lets You Change Visual Settings to Improve Frame Rate, Dev Says

We've already heard some details about how The Division on console will afford players the ability to tweak graphical setting as PC players can, and now, a developer working on the game has shared more. In fact, it sounds like you will be able to change the lighting settings to improve frame rate, if you want.

Quote:
"You can disable certain lighting aspects to improve frame rates in the console versions," an Ubisoft developer said as part of this Team Epiphany preview (via NeoGAF). "I don't know of another game that does that. So if you want to choose frame rate over visuals, you can if you want."

Quote:
The ability to change graphical settings is nothing new on PC. Though the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of The Division will let you do this, the PC version will offer more.

"One good thing about The Division is we've always considered the PC as a separate platform," the developer went on to say. "We do have to keep it in check with the consoles; it would be kind of unfair to push it so far away from them. But it's been good having a dedicated PC build for this game."

"I'm really happy that we're pushing the PC build as much as we are; there's a lot more customized options than the console."

So the PS4 and Xbox One versions have more visual settings which can improve the frame-rate, this is a really cool feature, a few games from the last gen and the current console generation have the option for an unlocked frame-rate, it's nice to see this addition to console games.

And the PC version was held back because "it would be kind of unfair to push it so far away from them."
I never expected a developer to actually come out and say this, isn't it pretty unfair in itself to hold back the PC version?

They finally admit it. Platform parity. applaud.gif Thank you Ubi.

Ok so does this mean that they will remove the 30-FPS cap when lowering graphical settings and allow for 30+ FPS on consoles (ok neat, but still meh).

Or, does this mean they let you disable graphical details in order to maintain solid 30 FPS, in which case wth.gif? Because I am fairly positive that the console versions are supposed to be locked into 30 FPS cap.

Hahahaha, wow. So sad, Ubisoft.... lachen.gif

It's nice, though, to finally see some pretty irrefutable proof of what a lot of us have suspected for quite some time.

With the graphic edit, it seems consoles may hit closer to 60fps. Realistically, closer to 45 if i had to guess. I dont think turning off just lighting would all of a sudden double your frame rate. Good for them. Console beta looks to be capped at 30fps.

I do not believe the 30 FPS cap is limited only to the BETA.

The PC beta had unlocked frames settings. Besides the onscreen numbers, the poster also leaves the frame limiter setting as 'unlimited'. One of a few things Ubi did right.

The fact that the game has both minimum and recommended specs is obvious proof that the PC version is held back by PCs, like very other PC game that doesn't required quad titans. Consoles are the easy scapegoat and people will eat it up, though.

I mean, I've had the suspicion (as have others) for a while, but after this confirmation it pretty much seals the deal that Ubi will never see another dime from me. Ever.
