Possibly swapping from amd to intel. - Page 3

There's games where you will indeed see 50%+ performance gain from going with intel.

Usually in the 60+ fps range (for AMD), but some strategy games and mmos would see the benefit earlier. (or some games at max settings I guess. If they got some draw call heavy settings)

I'd look up cpu benchmarks for the games you play/plan to play, and decide based on that.

Another question would be ddr3(4790k?) vs ddr4 (6600k) what would be the benefits over one or the other?Totally lost here a few friends say go with the i7 over the i5 and stick with ddr3.Not sure which way to go any guidance would be appreciated.

Not worth the money invested - particularly in those games and on the monitor you have. Crank that FX up a couple more notches, looks like you should be good for 4.8 ghz + , given your cooling/motherboard/pus and your current voltage/clockspeed.

Another 290 would probably do more for framerates in those games than any processor.

Yeah, probably not worth the money for the division. You'd see some potential for gains with tomb raider, though that game is also very demanding on the GPU side, while seeming very playable with FX cpus as well.

Averages about 110 fps on ultimate settings - 200 fps at normal settings on the previous Tomb Raider - FX 8 core/780ti no overclock on the card. Haven't tried the new TR.

Reminds me, it's important to disclaim these benches, they're testing whatever CPU heavy scenario they came across in the game, for these.

So usually one would play less CPU heavy areas!
(edit: this being the area/path they did to test. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLJeDOeR_ms At least that's what's posted right above the results!)

Your BF4 claims are strange. Double fps?

http://www.techspot.com/review/734-battlefield-4-benchmarks/page6.html

BF4 engine is hard on multi threading.

So anandtech and techspot are AMD biased?

But the cost is not going to be cheap as stated above you will need a new CPU, new RAM and a new motherboard so you got to weigh the pros and cons and pick whats best for you. But honestly i would jump ship and switch to intel especially if you play CPU intensive games.

Stick with what you have until Zen shows up then make a decision then. Turn down a few of the FPS robbing features in the games to increase the FPS if needed. Take it from a AMD FX9590/FuryX owner going to a I7-5930K/FuryX combo. Other than Benchmarks, you will not see a difference if running games at 1080p. Then there's the cost. I picked up I7-5930K/Asus Rampage V USB3.1/DDR4 3000mhz.($1500CDN). Sold my AMD FX9590/Asus Crosshair V Formula Z/DDR3 for $700. Trust me, there was no $800 worth of performance upgrade. Looks great in benchmarks. Really shows a difference in the FireStrike score. But not in games.

Your benchmark is of an extremely CPU light section of the singleplayer campaign - the CPU's at 2.5ghz could still handle it fine. Hardware requirements are very different in 64p MP and the game does tend towards being CPU bound at higher framerates.

While Frostbite is one of the best engines for multithreading, it's still highly reliant on ST performance - otherwise the 8350 with a 200mhz advantage would be almost neck and neck with the 6600k instead of being behind by 1.35x. It it wasn't one of the best threaded engines, it might be behind by 1.5 to 2x instead - take that as an example.

I'd take issue with those benchmark scores, on ultra settings an FX 8 @ 5 ghz is about dead even with a 4770K at 4.5 ghz in 64 player mp games.

Even if those aren't biased benchmark results, the OP would never be able to see the difference with the monitor he is using.
