someone was saying i3 is going to struggle in the new TR, i do not understand the misinformation.

FX 8350 is NOT a competitor to the i5 / i7 lineup it can only compete with an i3 (Gaming). Comparing it beyond that is like comparing a Dodge Charger to a BMW 7 Series. It is more than FIVE YEARS OLD now, you cannot expect it to hold up to anything. AMD's CPU division hasnt made a profit in more than a year due to this particular product being so crap that it has dragged the company to nearly inevitable death.

By defending the FX 8 series you are saying that the consumer market is foolish, the benchmarks are paid for by Intel and AMD's financial statements are a lie and Illuminati is confirmed. It will run things fine but it is less value for the money as compared to an i3 except for very niche situations like rendering. When you buy that stuff you get less for your money so it is a really bad price / performance chip.

I am sure there will be a group of people defending the Microsoft Zune or Windows Vista but that does not change the fact that they were horrible products like the FX lineup.

Glad you posted that graph, ( you are mistaken about the 8350's age btw - it was released in oct 2012 ) 8350 produces more average fps than the 4770K? (at about half the cost) minimum fps means absolutely nothing with out any other point of reference btw , I've seen it many times where it is expressed during a cut scene or other part of a benchmark that is meaningless. I've seen this happen on several benches - run bioshock infinite's benchmark and pay attention to when it registers a minimum.
The fact that the FX gave better average fps , despite having a lower minimum fps points to at least a couple possiblities, either the minimum was for a very short duration, ( perhaps even imperceiptable ) or the FX did better at the maximum fps.Aso the op is going to be overclocking the FX to 9590 levels , if you notice, the 6700k is the only chip listed that provides more average fps (4) or 5% more than the 4.7ghz 8 core Vishera.

I was referencing a situation a user had posted showing an i 3 6300 producing about half ( roughly 15 fps low , 30 for highs) of what an i 5 did at the same settings. I'll take a look for it when I get home from work.

The fx series was released in oct 2011, FX 8120 is the same chip as 8320, same way r9 290 = r9 390. I would say minimums are quite important
but most of those CPUs performed well in this game. Here are some other graphs comparing some popular CPUs from the same source -

Pretty much all of which point to the fact that if you have an FX 8 core running 4.7ghz on a 1080 monitor at 60hz spending 500+ for an platform upgrade isn't very cost effective and won't even be noticable on the vast majority of games out there.

Regardless of what you want to say or believe the 8350 was realeased in oct. 2012.

People who refuse to acknowledge they are mistaken deny themselves the delicous fruit of enlightenment. I don't see much point in discussing things with you further smile.gif

No, my main point was that it is not as good as an i3 and my main point was that FX was one of the biggest product failures by AMD, but yeah most CPUs are within 10% of each other from 150 - 1500$ price range, this is the era we live in. I think its fine to keep it, i suggested the OP that he/she should upgrade if he thinks that is $500 well spent for him, I personally wouldn't upgrade till something comes out that doesnt run to my satisfaction because i don't have much cash to spare for PC.
It seems like OP clearly has the cash to spend, so he should upgrade because he is definitely going to a much faster CPU on paper, platform that should last longer assuming we have games that can really require a strong CPU in the future. Also feels good to upgrade.

AMD is an excellent choice for HTPC and general computing (internet and email) but when it comes down to gaming computers or anything that requires actual cpu power then intel all the way

I'm pretty sure i have that itch to upgrade.Which im sure is understandable when u have the same setup excluding a gpu sitting next to you for 5 years.Leds on my case are burning out,3 sata ports on my mobo are dead.So while i know its not much of an upgrade its still and upgrade.I could always snatch up a matx board and toss the fx chip and throw it in a silverstone sugo case for a media box in the living room or something..So far heres what i compiled...
