Mayhem Pastel Woes

I have been purchasing my watercooling needs from performance-pcs who has been great and offer some awesome products.

One of my main purchases is 6 liters of Mayhems Pastel Red. So far I have used 5 of them... The first First I made a mistake and had to drain the system. The Second I cleaned the system and rinsed it with DI Water 8 times before adding the Pastel Red. It turned into a mess... The fluid turned a clear red with the particles all gathered in the tubes, CPU block, GPU block and the Rad. I had to take my whole system apart to clean each piece and get the particles removed. I used a mixture of vinegar and water. This worked very well and I reassembled my system then flushed it with DI Water 8 times. Wanted to make sure all the particles and dye was out. It took two days before particle separation occurred. I ordered the Mayhem Basic Cleaning system before doing anything else. I didn't need the Pro remover since the system is brand new. So I disassembled the entire system again and cleaned everything. Followed the instructions on Meyhems insert. Flushed the system with DI water 4 times... Added the Mayhem cleaning system let it run for 24 hours and followed by 4 flushings with DI Water. Added the Pastel Red and whole crap it happend again!!!! Clear Red with particles stuck in all the tubes, GPU, CPU and Rad.

So my real question is what the hell? What if anything am I doing wrong. I have sent multiple emails to Mayhem with no reply. I heard some horror stories about their Customer Service and finding it may be coming true.

I hope Mayhem will respond with resolution or send me some replacement coolent with a resolution or you guys can help!!

Thank you,

Craig

Did you happen to check the pH? Mayhem Pastel seems to be pH sensitive.

What kind of rads are you using? Some tend to be dirtier than others and really need the part 1 of the blitz pro kit, especially when using pastel. You should use part 1 on the rads, then reassemble the loop and run the part 2. After that you need to flush A LOT. I connected my rig up to the kitchen sink and flushed it for about 30 minutes, then flushed several times with distilled. Haven't had any problems with my pastel.
Part 1 only needs to be used once in the lifetime of the rad, after that just using part 2 on the whole system will be enough when changing coolants.

Is it THIS rad? If so, you are going to want to replace it immediately with a COPPER rad. The aluminum will corrode the copper blocks unless you use an ethylene glycol based coolant. I don't know why they even bother making aluminum rads anymore. I don't think blitz should be used on aluminum either, but you should browse the mayhems users thread to make sure.

Mayhems does not support ThermalTake rads, might want to fire them a Message though there support and you'll see pictures of why they do not support it.

Thermaltake Pacific RL Radiators
Last updated 23 days ago

Mayhems does not support any Radiator's that have an internal Zinc plated sacrificial layer such as the Thermaltake ( TT ) Pacific RL Radiator Series aluminium radiator's.

Quote direct from TT “Although this protection will gradually degrade as the Zinc corrodes away over time”.

Mayhems internal testing has seen issues with these radiators and we do not support the use of Mayhems Coolants with these internal Zinc coated Radiators in liquid cooling.

Simple answer -profit. Have you seen the price difference between copper and aluminum as a raw material? Current market is $2.12USD/lb of copper, $0.68USD/lib for aluminum, so the cost of copper is over three times that of aluminum. So, the aluminum rad costs far less to produce, and Tt is selling them at the same price point as HWL, EK, Alphacool, etc, so just do the math there.

Tt can spin their "oh, but we braze it" all they want, it is all about profit.
