You can use CLC in pretty much any case, with any ram, or, other hardware setup. Unlike air which won't work with some ram, case clearing, or larger hardware.

Not sure how some of you guys define Versatility, but,

Doesn't everything just really come out to Cost?

Custom Loops are more expensive to put together than any air or CLC.

Just Fact.

Two Types of People in this world. Some with a little extra cash, and some trying to have a hobby with just cash. rolleyes.gif

At least, that's what building a computer turned out for myself. And I do speak for myself when I say these remarks.


Started with a 212 Evo. Rebuilt the computer with an H100i.

Progressed to a XSPC Photon 170 Pump/Res Combo with a 360mm XSPC V3 Rad + an Alphacool 240mm (45mm Thick) Rad,

Then Built a Full Custom loop that ran about 3000$ for just the watercooling parts.

DDC Pump, Reservoirs, Rads, Fans, Fittings, Tubing.....

Building a passion Happens.

Really? Are you sure about that? Try air starving a CLC and watch what happens......

And on your other points, you can do all of those things with air, you simply choose the right cooler for your application.

Try running a CLC on the same airflow of a similar coolng air cooler and you will find out real quick how hot a CLC runs .. just don't wander away from or you might miss it when it overheats and shutsdown. tongue.gif

Versatility is not just clearing RAM and many cases will not fit a CLC properly. CLC are cheaply built throw-away systems that only the fan can be changed on .. while an air cooler has only a fan that can fail .. no pump, no hoses, no cheap aluminum radiator with water running through it and demanding very high airflow to cool it.

It doesn't take rocket science or Einstein abilities to pick components and cooler to all fit and work properly.

Lke @TheCautiousOne pointed out, cost is also a factor, and CLC cost more for same performance .. but the do give you more noise for your money, if that makes you feel any better. tongue.gif

When I said air requires high airflow that clc doesn't, I mean you can setup a CLC as an intake. You don't have to get crazy with fans if your airflow isn't good enough.

After messing with both I feel like Air just requires more to fit into its needs then a CLC does.

Honestly both have their pros and cons. Air works fine for my backup rig, and ol'ladys rig. My main rig I wasn't able to feed it enough to keep it cool.

To beat the dead horse, this argument always end up one side claiming the following while the other side disagree.

1. You shouldn't get a case with bad airflow.
2. You shouldn't get a case with low CPU clearance.
3. I can always feed fresh air to my cooler regardless placement of the components.
3. Single GPU system is good enough. Go custom loop for sli/xfire.

Anyone Ever Run an h100i with Stock Fans at max rpm for better "Temps" , so don't forget to purchase 2 more fans for (240mm) H100i while your shopping. rolleyes.gif

No, I am saying that running a CLC as intake in a case with bad airflow is very similar to having a convection oven. GPUs and VRMs simply love those kinds of myopic setups. rolleyes.gif

If you are going to use a CLC....at least use it without it being a detriment to all of your other components.
