is my psu enough?

Thread Starter
i don't want to use power supply calculators, i'm planning to build a sleeper pc starting from an old desktop that i have at home.
the final rig is going to have this components:

-ASUS M4A78LT-M LE motherboard
-AMD Athlon x4 640 cpu
-2x 4GB DDR3 modules in dual channel
-AMD R9 270x graphics card
-a PCI-E single port ethernet card
-an old 500 GB 7200 Rpm Seagate hard drive
-a DVD-RW/CD-RW combo drive from ASUS

and finally the psu, i want to go with the Enermax Naxn500, continuous 500w psu. It's not really expensive but i trust Enermax's products.

is 500W enough for this config?

Thank you smile.gif
The Enermax Naxn 500w is a big NO, stay away from it. When I take a look at the pics, I'm fairly certain it's a rebranded CWT PUF unit.
The PUF and PUFP series are some pretty bad PSUs,

Here's a review of another PUF based unit: www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Thermaltake-Purepower-500-W-Power-Supply-Review/990/2

If you're on a tight budget buy something like the Cooler Master G450M or G550M or whatever is available in your country.

That's also sadly not Corsairs best PSU, its rated as a tier-3 PSU I believe.
Does Amazon also perhaps have the XFX pro/core 550w? Or seasonic bronze 520w?

I would really advice getting a semi-good PSU smile.gif

Wrong. There are two branches of Enermax EAXN up to 500W, 'AWT' and 'AGT'.

EAXN AWT uses the CWT DSAII platform (which is a tad below the CWT DSAIII used in Corsair CX430), and just mediocre caps.

EAXN AGT uses the CWT GPA platform (which is a tad below the CWT GPM used in Corsair VS450), and atrocious caps (Jun Fu and Su'scon fecal matter).

Pic of an Enermax NAXN ENP500AGT (GPA platform):

^ Not too bad for a cheap PSU, save for the terrible caps.

on amazon i only found the XFX ProSeries 450W, that i think it's not enough for what i'm planning to do.
i only found a Thermaltake Hamburg 530W with 80+ bronze rating; and i also found an EVGA 500B, also with 80+ Bronze rating, all two at around 55 euros

The 450 watt XFX is more then enough you dont need a 500+ PSU for the system in the OP.

As for the Thermaltake and the EVGA those are not all that good either.
Last 80 plus has nothing to do with quality if you are not aware.

Out of all the options you listed so far the XFX is the best one.
