Seeing no official word on it and expecting it to not happen. sad-smiley-002.gifsad-smiley-002.gifsad-smiley-002.gif

If it doesn't happen they will probably end up really regretting letting that DX12.dll slip out into the wild. Why would someone waste the time adding the option to the launcher if they weren't planning to add the option?

why?

Maybe they just experimented with it and noticed that it wouldn't work out.

I honestly don't expect Rise of the Tomb Raider to get an DX12 patch. I really don't expect an outrage about it. They never announced the game to support DX12 or anything.

the only game that I'm interested in DX12 is lfight sim, but theyre not making a dx12 flight sim, so from my pov dx12 is useless.

Yeah but it's out there now, whether it was announced by them or not. There is already quite a few AMD fans who were disappointed by the Nvidia support and now that the game is out and for whatever reason it is getting better cpu performance on nvidia cards. DX12 might solve that problem. It may be something as simple as enabling the DX12 features that exist in the XBONE version.... I have no idea but if it isn't going to happen they need to nix it now before it spreads.

It would make sense for Microsoft to push out a DX12 Flight Sim to showcase DX12 and Win 10.

They are probably waiting for GDC to counter Vulkan's launch titles.

Yea but unless you are a prescient god, designing an API that has 1 and only 1 valid way to accomplish a certain task for something as complex as rendering, which you can then optimize for every arbitrary use case in your implementation then your entire argument is invalid. If you really do design and develop API's you can't tell me you can see that as a viable argument when you have scenarios to process in thread, threaded callback, threaded interrupt and batch processing models to name a few.

Saying that API's exist only to ease the process of the development shades the real reason for their existence, which is encapsulation and good design principles. Helper libraries exist to make development easier. API's exist so you don't have to have to know or care how a task happens and you can view it as an atomic transaction from your frame of reference. If the API designers don't do their job right and place that black box wall in the right place you end up with DX11 and before levels of overhead for things which are erroneously tightly-coupled. The same is true of helper libraries and the designers of THOSE APIs.

Finally, the true onus really comes down to the developer and the studios who utilize these tools for voting with their dollars for inferior products. There is also the practice of accepting the massive kickbacks and incentives which resulting in DX being the dominant and de facto standard for the game development industry.

They contracted with a 3rd party team for the latest Flight Sim game, no reason they can't do that again. I don't recall the name of the dev but they also make train and truck sims.
