Hey im new to overclocking I having been reading guides on how to overclock what to look for as in volt, temp, ratio and so on. As yall probably know starting out its pretty confusing and im trying to find someone to help me with my rig. I want to give yall a run down of my rig because i dont know really what i have my best friend gave me this computer and im trying to see if its good i think its average but any help would be grateful.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
MotherBoard: GA - 990FXA-UD3 (Socket M2)
GraphicsCard: Amd Radeon HD 6900 Series on the card it says XFX Radeon HD 6950
Ram:DDr3 24GB 2x4GB Vengence 1600MHZ and i just added 2x8 Vengence 1600MHZ
Storage 2TB WD
OS: Windows 10 pro

It does have a h2o system on it no sure what model i will have to crack the case open to let yall know but if there is any tips on how to over clock or what i should run or if any of my components need to be upgraded just let me know thanks

Welcome to ocn. What are you going to be doing with it? If your gaming, what games will you be playing? I'm not really up on ram but generally speaking you don't want to mix ram. But I'd let someone more knowledgeable comment on that. But unless you're rendering or video editing 16gigs is enough. And running 4 sticks works the memory controller in the cpu harder (harder to overclock a bit). Your cpu can still hold it's own (I run the same 1 @ 4ghz). Your gpu is going to be your biggest weak spot for gaming. But you'll be able to play most AAA titles at low/medium settings with decent frame rates (assuming your playing @ 1080p). This was pretty much my Bible when I started working with the phenom II. http://www.overclock.net/t/777378/official-gappos-little-deneb-thuban-overclocking-guide-with-too-many-smileys. We'll definitely want to know what's cooling the cpu. Let us know the name and size of it if you can't figure it out. Pictures help even more. These 1100t's throw out some heat when you start cranking them up. I'm not too familiar with your board so I can't comment on its overclocking ability. But being a 990fx is pretty good. And you should use the rigbuilder up at the top of the page and put your rig in your signature so you don't have to type it all the time. Do you have any specific questions at this point? This will all be methodical trial and error on your part. All we can do is steer you in the right direction and help you not blow things up (hopefully). Definitely read gappos guide that I linked. I can't tell you how many times I've read it or referred to it.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you I work 13hr days and have a toddler so my time is limited which is why im here seeking assistance.

I have completed my rigbuilder, to the best of my knowledge I used Speccy to assist me. I also visited the link that you gave me and downloaded some of the software that he had recommend but not sure how to utilize it yet I have ran a stress test on normal no over clock settings and my cpu goes from 26° to 56.8°. I read you dont want to go over 60°-62° can i lower this temp by increasing my fan speed for my cpu?

I use this computer for downloading and playing games and i want to get back into programming so i need to be able to render things which is the reason for the overclocking.

I want to run some history of what i have did. I forgot to tell yall that my best friend gave me this rig so im not sure of all the specs but the only thing i added to it was the 2x8 ram and a 2tb hard drive because i was having a blue screen of death not sure on the error code but i replaced my hard drive and was trying to look at the cmos to slave the old 500gb that came with the computer. In doing this found out that the cmos was locked i tried to contact my buddy but he didn't build the computer either, he had a buddy of his build it so he doesn't know the password or any of the components inside of it. So i just decided to clear my cmos and download my motherboards manual to make sure i was doing it right. And yes i know to touch any metal before handling components to get rid of static. After doing so the computer boots up to the bios and i can get into the cmos and now it has a loud clicking sound before it leaves the bios while loading everything. Then it tries to run the operating system and while doing it clicks a lot until it says an error has occurred. then it tells me to hit ctrl+alt+delete to reboot which it will cycle through it again. The only way i know how to get it to boot up is by turning the Comp. on as the bios boots up i still hear clicking and i spam F12 which is my boot order. Then i click hard drive and i click my 2TB HardDrive and it boots up normal after that no more clicking. Both hard drives have an OS on them but i have it setup in cmos to boot my hard drive 1st and none for 2nd or 3rd. And i have also choose to but my 2TB which is my new hard drive instead of my old 500GB which i believe was causing the blue screen.

No my question is why with all the error clicking is it because i have both hard drives plugged in, Maybe im missing somthing in the cmos because ive never really messed with the cmos before.

After i find out why it wont boot normal i will get around to the overclocking
