You know..Everything made since has compatibility issues;and the performance is not worth the compatibility headache,IMO.

Deja Vu. INTEL announces no more overclock in the classical sense. OCN goes mad, pitchforks, torches, banging on the gates, and even a few HULK SMAAAAASHES!! Oh god! Let AMD bring out a good chip! Please AMD be the shizzle! INTEL takes out Sandy Bridge and ... silence. Some say OCN praises this chip even today.

Having said that, all you with the doom and gloom attitude should take a panadol and relax. Change can be good and stop living in the neighbourhood where entitlement and 'oh noes, the past was so much better' walk down the street everyday.

Well then. I guess Zen is now our great hope in the world of high-performance CPUs.

Deja Vu Deja Vu. Intel has slacked before, and AMD smacked them with something called the Athlon64.

Intel are slacking again, and AMD has a Jim Keller designed chip again. Let the fireworks begin.

Better hope for the best otherwise the fireworks are pointed at AMD and not the sky this time around frown.gif

I think that what Intel really means to say is that clockspeed will be sacrificed to save on power. We're seeing this already with Core M, where it doesn't have to clock very high to have similar performance compared to a Core i5 processor, and where it clocks down to 900MHz most of the time.

I think we're going to see another leap in performance comparable to the Nehalem-Sandy Bridge change eventually, but how exactly Intel manages to orchestrate that is a mystery. 10 nanometer production won't do it, and 7nm will have some major thermal issues to overcome first. Replacing silicon is the only answer that I can see working, and even then we might have a performance regression with that move anyway.

It's still a good CPU for gaming, but I see pretty decent improvement clock for clock on the different architectures here:

Some of the games got a 30% fps increase from Sandy to Skylake at 4.4 GHz

Core M and Cherry Trail are terrible chips. Their SDP is 2-4.5W but they can suck as much as 10W and overheat massively, causing them to throttle. Tests have shows that Cherry Trail performs no better than Bay Trail when stressed, which is why it's rumoured Intel will replace CT with a different revision or chip soon.
