Even with a massive OC on the 970? (I'm only asking to make sure, I do believe you though!)

And I called up Asus, they are not willing to uphold the warranty as the card was heavily OCed. Still in the talks with them. If I can convince them to replace it, I'd be happy.

For future reference when dealing with RMA's, don't say you overclocked the GPU. Setup the RMA, send it in, and see what happens.

Kinda sucks you need a new card now, as both AMD and Nvidia are set to release some new cards here soon. I'd personally pick up a 380x, and just wait for the new cards. It will give you enough performance for now, and you will save some $$ that can be put towards a better card when they are released. The 380x is only 200-250$, or nearly half the cost of a 390x, or 970. Another option would be to find a used 290x, which is basically the same a 390x.

Soon? It will be ~6 months before we see new GPU's in this price bracket.

380X is closer to 250 than 200 and how is 225-250$ half the price of 970, when custom cards can be found for 300$, probably including Rise of the Tomb Raider (Newegg)..

So a 390X custom card with higher than stock clock, can beat a reference 980? I would certainly hope so..

970 is good bang for buck for 1080-1200p and whisper quiet, no 390/390X comes close in terms of noise output.

Performance across ~20 popular games at 1080p and 1440p:

That's an older review using older AMD drivers. R9 390X performance has increased further since then.

No need to continue the thread as OP has purchased an R9 390X and I'm sure he'll be very happy with it.
