Does it affect the graphics card if an external soundcard is close to the fans?

Hey guys...

I think my mobo is faulty, and I'm looking to replace it. My problem is that there isn't that many 1155 socket boards I can buy, so I'm forced to buy a micro-atx Asrock H61M-DGS..

I have a MSI 660 TI power edition that requires 2 slots as it's kinda thick.. I've calculated (as best as I can) that it's not going to block the PCI under it, however it's going to be VERY close... now heres the thing, I have a creative x-fi titanium pro soundcard, and I'm sure i can sqeeze it in there, but that'll block one of the fans air, they are not going to touch, but they will be VERY close... so is that going to hurt/affect my graphics card temperatures?

Of course it will, but you have to try it yourself to see how badly it will affect it for the way you use your computer.

And by the way, that's not an external sound card. It's an internal sound card. In fact, anything external isn't a card at all because a card is something that goes into a slot like a PCI or PCI-E slot.

can you make a list of the boards you can get?

A biostar or ECS motherboard might be a better option at that price point do to the pcie 1x slot being above the pcie 16x slot

You could pick up a board from ebay.
There is a pretty good selection of decent boards depending on what you want to spend.

Also if the sound card completely covers an entire fan, it is possible it will have a large effect on air flow. But like TC said, you really can't know until you test it yourself.

I would say don't even try to get a new board, they just aren't around anymore for that socket.
Used is your way to go.

ASRock H61 Pro BTC
ASRock H61M-DGS
ASUS H61M-K
ASRock H61M-VG4
MSI H61M-P31/W8

Only ATX is the H61 pro BTC.. but I have no idea of this bitcoin priority and how much it affects other things, specielly for gaming.. looks like that is my best option right now.. is it going to affect anything performance wise? overclocking? ... I basically just need a mobo that can last a few years, until I can afford to upgrade the CPU...

Ebay and stuff have weird listing, and most of them are more expensive than what they used to cost at launch in stores.. but so far I haven't found one that I'm tempted to buy, but i'll keep looking.. since it seems like I have to.

That is the very reason that when I needed to replace my P67 board, I just ended up picking up an RMA 4790k, and a motherboard my friend had laying around.
I was able to get my hands on 1150 socket stuff for the same price as simply replacing my p67 with a better board.
