13GHz 512-Bit would be ~ 35-40W tops. Probably lower. It does make a difference even if its only15-20W.

from those charts,how does a Fury X achieves same/lower power consumption of the 290x with just a lower 15w memory and 45% more SP(2816SP+45%)?

architecture difference.
its like Tonga, it requires less power than Tahiti despite having the same number of SP and same clock.


on a side note, their power consumption:
GDDR5 = 100%
GDDR5X = 67%
HBM = 50%

seems like we'd have to wait for HBM3 before HBM takes over the entire GPU line.

Well I can certainly see how the GDDR5x (wow that was a mouth full) will greatly benefit the mobile market. ~10w or 40% better power efficiency will really benefit power consumption of laptops and help reduce the heat output. Guess with Intel stepping down on stepping up performance and lower power consumption all around with GDDR5x, Skylake & Pascal/AMD we're taking a big leap for ultrabooks. Shouldn't have to be carrying around 8lb laptops anymore in 2017-2018 hopefully. lol

a max speed 14Gb/s 512bit will likely to consume roughly ~50w tops

That is a lot though. Does not matter much if you water cool your card but if you have 150W GPU having 30W for vRAM is a lot. 10GHz is 20W. 13-14GHz will be 30W.

This is horrible news.

It either means we wont get GDDR5X cards until summer at earliest or Nvidia/AMD will continue to use GDDR5 with the upcoming midrange cards that release before the summer.
With GDDR5X and HBM2 so close, I`m not comfortable buying any GDDR5 cards to be honest.

Don't be a Mr. Half Empty, be a Mr. Half Full. If they really are launching cards around June this news means that they will more than likely be HBM cards, which means they are high end cards and not midrange.... good news if you ask me.
