I don't know what X99 board to get and the amount of information is overwhelming.

So Im just about to pull the trigger on my build, listed below, but decided to go over a few parts just one last time. Im starting to have doubts about the motherboard. I kind of just picked the Asus based on that Iv mainly used an asus board for the last few builds with no issues with them in the past. But reading more up on X99 boards it seems most if not all manufacturers have their issues with the X99 chipset.

A few things I plan on definitely doing is overclocking, adding a second card for SLI (going to upgrade my current 2x24/30" multi monitor system to a dual 34" ultra wide 1440p setup) and having m.2. The Asus X99-A/USB 3.1 is my first choice, with the Sabertooth X99 as the second but that's a bit more cost wise. The other option I was looking at was the MSI X99A SLI Krait ed. board. Just haven't heard the best when it comes to MSI and OCing. Plus I really like the black n white look of that board and it's still within my price range.

I should say this system is a work/gaming system. I trade online and tend to have multiple trading programs open 16 hours a day as well as a game going on another screen a lot of the times. This is a multi-purpose system.

Again Im just feeling a bit overwhelmed with the options and not sure if I should just go with the my first choice or look elsewhere at other options. Thanks for any help.

Your selected board should be good for you.

I would suggest changing the PSU
The Corsair RM series just isnt great and you also dont need 1000W

850w is more then enough for overclocked 980ti's in SLI

Only if your going to overvolt your 980ti's with a bios mod and run a very high CPU overclock i would take a 1000W PSU (but not the RM)

I had my sights set on the Evga G2 but I caught a FRYs deal for the RM for $95 shipped. I do plan on going SLI, just holding out for a price drop once Pascal comes out to get the second card. I also plan on overclocking both cpu and gpu. I would try to sell it but I should have the rest of my parts by this weekend.

BTW what's wrong with the RM, it shows good reviews but now Im having doubts.

With standard overclocks you still only need 850W.
Only if you going to overvolt it with a bios mod or so you need more.

I updated the pcpartpicker list with parts that I already have and would like to plan on having in total. I added the extra 980 Ti just to see how it would play out with the over all list. Im aware that pcpartpicker lists the wattage breakdown as an estimate but with that extra 980Ti it shows being over 800w.

Whether or not I get the extra 980 TI is still up in the air. I won't get it til after Pascal drops and the prices of the 980 Ti's start to drop and by then depending on the prices of the Pascal I might just sell the current 980 and upgrade to a single one then. I do plan on getting a 34" 1440p ultra wide, just waiting to see how Monoprice's version pans out. And again I do plan on a basic overclock but nothing extreme, Id be happy to get 4.4 out of the 5820. Id don't have a problem putting the RM1000 on the market and getting the 850w G2, I just want to make sure it can handle the full potential of what I hope to get out of this build. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance. Thanks

Trust me, 850w is enough for standard overclocked 980ti's in SLI.

Maybe our PSU Guru Shilka will see and confirm to rolleyes.gif
