MSI GT72 Dominator Performance, Tuning, Overclocking, and Upgrades - Page 2

Just wanted to say this to anyone that has bought the MSI GT72..

Check what bios version you are on. The first release was ".109" .. I noticed some strange things in the bios with keeping certain settings. This made me want to do a bios update. The 2nd bios release fixed something with keeping overclock settings in the bios. Now it's at bios version ".113" which I think is the 3rd or maybe 4th version. I updated to this bios version and things are running much better as far as keeping bios settings exactly as I change them now. Also boot time has been fixed to not wait sometimes 10-15sec before seeing the MSI logo. Now it appears in 3 sec no matter what. Every time. It's keeping my boot order correct and also keeping my Overclock settings correct now. I thought that MSI gaming center was just resetting the overclock settings, but now it's working as is.

I would recommend updating the bios IF you are on the 1st bios version ".109" .. If you are on a later version already, then you might not want to mess with it if everything is working as it should be.

I've got this laptop less than a month ago... I simply love it...
I wonder if there are bios mods to do and vbios as well..
As of now I set it up for battery life, not performance, since I am around and need it for work (and fun).
I achieved more than 6 hours (6.1) using intel graphic card and undervolting the cpu by 195 millivolts.

Still to be desired things:

1) killer wireless wdi drivers don't support soft ap in windows 10.
2) a modified bios with more overclocking/underclocking/undervoltage features for cpu and ram.
3) (i think there is one around) modified nvidia gpu bios allowing underclocking/undervolting/overclocking and without limits.
4) a hack to disable the 6700HQ multiplier lock (hehehe tough one to do.. might need microcode hacking)

Some notes about things nobody noticed (or talked about):

1) the LCD accepts refresh rates as low as 24hz and as high as 100hz !!!
2) the keyboard is incredible for a laptop.
3) the lcd is very well calibrated and just suffers a little bright spots in the corners because of too tight assembly (the plastic frame pushes a little too hard near the hinges in the lower corners)

I mainly use this laptop as a desktop replacement since I will be traveling a lot this year and the next. Of my home desktop as of now I miss only my 30tb hard drives.. but that could be done easily putting them in an external enclosure or a NAS..
