Yeah, killer deal on 980m 4gb. I'd buy that too if it was on Skylake platform as well for some NVMe support biggrin.gif . Wouldn't think it would be the 4gb Vram 960m

It's 960m 4gb so that's a bust.

Still wanting to see an IO profiler though. It would actually spell out if it's wasting money or not for a consumer.

Yeah, at this point, I'm honestly considering an Alienware.

Reason being that the tech is all there, the tech support is solid, and the machine itself is a brick, and that's basically what I want.

This needs to survive me, my wife, and my 15yo who will use it for homeschooling next year.

PRICE RANGE HAS INCREASED TO $1600

Thanks - T

Raising the Price range to $1600 will now get you A LOT MORE laptop for your money. You can find some 980m 4gb models for that price if you find a good deal. You could definitely get yourself a very nice laptop with the 970m 6gb model too.

Maybe you should look at Xotic PC and try building a laptop to your liking. I'm pretty sure you could get the 6820K Cpu, 970m 6gb, NVMe support, and every option you want within the $1600 range or little less. You won't be able to fully deck out a 980m model, but could find a deal on one.

Do you like a certain brand more than others? Are you wanting a certain brand over another? After I got my MSI GT72, I can highly recommend their laptops from what I've seen, but that's my personal preference. I did like the Alienware I bought, except for a few issues I was having, and then there's a lot of ribbon cables once you open it up underneath which I'm not a big fan of, but if you don't mess with them a lot then you should be fine.

Money aside, if you could choose the brand that you would be most happy with if it had the right specs and everything you wanted, what brand would you choose? Just curious?

...alright!!! ...some walking around money.

I would take the first one. Since you're using W10, DX12 will take care of the CPU overhead. Don't worry about the older CPU, concentrate on the graphics power of the 980m 4GB. I will game longer too, unless you're into upgrading a GPU, which you could do on the 2nd one [any version of the GT72].

As far as sturdiness goes, my Asus G73 survived 5yrs being packed in a bag twice a day for 4-5 days a week and gamed on 30-50hrs a week, so an Asus G751 being stationary shouldn't be a problem.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M 4 GB GDDR5
4th Generation Intel Core i7 4720HQ (2.60 GHz)
16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 128 GB SSD
17.3" Full HD 1920 x 1080
16.40" x 12.50" x 0.90"-1.70" 8.40 lbs.
DVD±R/RW

As the GT72 has been my current laptop for the last 14 months doing the same routine my G73 did, ...it might even be holding up better.

I DEFINITELY want a NVMe OS drive, so stick that in there. Unfortunately that puts everything I look at up around $1800.
