Have you tried building up a GT72 Barebones on Xotic PC? It started at $1165 ish but was with a 4710HQ cpu which doesn't have NVMe support. you don't want a G751 as that's not NVMe either if that's an option you want for sure. I wouldn't try to get a laptop with the NVMe OS drive in it tho, just get the laptop without the NVMe drive because most of them wont be a Samsung 950 Pro unless you did a custom build from Xotic or something similar.

I'd just get a 1tb mechanical drive for your purchase, but buy the Samsung 950 Pro and put it in, use the Samsung Migration software and image the mechanical drive right over to the NVMe drive and it only will take about 20min if you do it before you start installing a bunch of things. It's very easy. Only took me about 30min or so when I had 230gigs that I imaged over. If you do right away from the start with only 20-30gigs, it might not even take 10min lol. then you can just format the mechanical drive to be a storage drive.

I'll do a build on Xotic once I get home and have a few min to mess around. Been a crazy busy day for me today doh.gif

Thread Starter
SO.

I have decided, against probably the better judgement of everyone here, to do something weird and off my original or modified game plan.

I am going to go with a Newegg-exclusive Lenovo Y700 17" rig, and let this be a satisfactory workhorse for a year or so.

Next tax season, I'll bury money into a SERIOUS rig for me and my wife ONLY, and let this one be for my daughter to mess with.

Make sense?
