That is part of their job.
The same as people who pick up your trash.
The same as people who clean for you at the office.
The same as the people who clean up your beach.
The same as people who clean up after people's horses.
The same as the cops keeping your streets safe (to a fashion).
The same as the firefighters risking their life.
The same as the doctor who saves peoples' lives.

Every job is important in a way. Someone doesn't like his job, the door is not locked. He can leave at any time.
If the apple store employee doesn't like helping people in an air conditioned store, playing with gadgets all day and listen to strange stories by customers, he can always quit his job and go pick up trash for a living. I'm sure he will enjoy the later job more then the former. don't you think so?

if picking up trash pays the same as manning a store, sure i guess.
plus its much more relaxing to pick up trash on a beach or park, than listen to other people's incomprehensible stories.

Well for $12/h putting a screen protector on a phone with a easy tool like this is the least of their worries. (You should read some of the stories about working in a Apple Store)

But I hear that working at an apple store isn't worth what they get paid, unless Apple is your Life.

Pretty sure the Trashman is getting paid more, but has to deal with the winter months.

If anything this is just a ploy to get more people to buy screen protectors. Force it down the people's throat at checkout.

It seems half of you never really had quality screen protector. Plastic film will always feel bad to touch. But quality glass will be (depending on the model):
- glass like to touch
- transparent like glass
- so thin you wont notice it
- way more scratch resistant (9H glass)
- much more resistant to shattering than GG

To those of you who "keep your pockets clean" (lol) and other people without a single scratch - lucky you. It takes single smallest piece of sand to scratch the screen. And sand is everywhere.
I hate sand.. Its coarse, rough, and gets everywhere

You'll be waiting until someone figures out a way to make them out of diamond.

Sapphire (9.0 on the Mohs scale) is very scratch-resistant, but sapphire glass also shatters very easily. The only other clear substance I know of that's harder is pure silicon carbide (9.25) and it's not cheap, either.

ZTE has an article on their website about the merits of sapphire and Gorilla glass as screen material. At the moment, it's still the best alternative.

I always put 9h tempered glass on phone.

Gorilla glass can be scratched by friction (keys...etc)

Don't know if it's been said in this thread yet, but it's not really keys or pens that scratch your Gorilla Glass, it's random bits of sand that might end up scratching it.

Quartz/silica sand is a 7-7.5 on the hardness scale while Gorilla Glass is rated at a 6. Sapphire is a 9, but unfortunately hasn't been put on a retail iPhone yet.

For the brave: feel free to pick up a rock (silicate) and rub it on your screen with some pressure.

Here's an example of silicate rock that is pretty common to see lining pathways:
