An x86 CPU maker named Cyrix, long out of business, came up with the idea of running its CPU's at non-standard, overclocked bus speeds on motherboards that didn't have the proper divisors to keep the PCI bus from running overclocked. A lot of people who ran them (or overclocked their Pentium MMX or AMD-K6 chips at the Cyrix settings) got HDD corruption from running their PCI bus at 41.7 MHz, 25 percent out of spec. Fortunately, AM1 is a niche product. Millions of those Cyrix chips were sold, mostly in cheap prebuilts. I replaced more than a few with K6-x parts that ran on standard bus speeds and could actually be used for gaming.

It's a shame AMD didn't make a "K" version of these APU's, but if you compare their IPC to an FX chip, you can understand why they probably didn't even consider it. Piledriver doesn't beat Kabini by very much, clock for clock.

As far as a GPU for a 5350, either of the R7 360 or a GTX 950 would be in the sweet spot for it.

This is historically true, but a lot of advancements in today's technology that improve against corruption of data. A lot of it is built in drives, memory and so on for error correction.

I ordered a Athlon 5350 with a Asus AM1I-A. I'll test the plateform with a HD 5770 1 Go DDR5, a HD 5850 1 Go DDR5 and a HD 7970 Ghz Edition 3 Go DDR5. I'll try to get a GTX 570 from my brother. CPU stock & overclocked. After that, i'll compare it with a Q6600, stock & oc (3.2 Ghz)

I'm doing this since i will offer this rig to a kid but i'm still not decided which dGPU i should buy ... Too bad i don't have a GTX 750 (ti), GTX 950 & GTX 960 to test ...

Gonna take some time to do this, stay tuned biggrin.gif

will they launch the Athlon 5370 as announced?
basically is a 5350 with greater frequency 2.05ghz to 2.2 ghz.
is to stay only on paper as the Athlon 550 without iGPU .

Imo, the Asus AM1I-A is the best because of the overclocking options.

Strap a cooler on it if you can. Cable ties, anything. The little one isn't enough for OCing beyond 2.2ghz.
