[WCCF] HITMAN To Feature Best Implementation Of DX12 Async Compute Yet, Says AMD - Page 31

Unfortunately AMD has yet to deliver on all their amazing promises at trade shows. When the product or feature finally comes out, it tends to be a "meh", only compensated by lower prices (Freesync, CPUs, GPUs, Mantle)

I wouldnt be surprised if they flop on this one too, even with what looks like no competition from Nvidia.

Trust me, I would love for AMD to finally get a solid lead and get some real competition going, but after so many letdowns I will only expect a "meh" until proven wrong.

It just shows that dev dont care. The tech is there. GW is in games because Nvidia give money to dev to use those tools.

Didn't they promise better audio or some stuff like over a year ago?
I remember it being an actually big part for me but when i went shopping for a new card it sorta felt into the dark abyss.

I'd take FreeSync out, FreeSync is superior to Nvidia in almost every way while being... Free. Its got less Latency when not Using Vsync and lower FreeSync threshold is now irrelevant, meaning the only important factor is the upper range.

I have a BenQ XL2730Z, FreeSync have never failed me, its been working flawlessly since day 1.

Mark my words, Gsync is going to die in less than 2 years, besides a pissing contest there's no reason for Nvidia to not support FreeSync.

Sorry, no.

FreeSync doesn't have less latency than G-Sync, that is a lie from AMD that was crushed. FreeSync also had many issues up through launch, including Ghosting problems. The G-Sync module does several things, that AMD is trying to duplicate via drivers.

Your post clearly shows you have read ZERO into VRR and how it functions. Please, stop spreading fud.

EDIT:

Oh, and FreeSync wasn't free, by any means. It was "free" in the sense that AMD didn't have to put much into it, and left fixing it and getting it running up to the hardware manufacturers of the panels and control boards. Unlike Nvidia, who sold the G-Sync module at cost, and actually took the time to tune it to each display that opted to use it.

EDIT 2:

Has FreeSync come a long way sense? Yes! Is VRR as a whole amazing? Yes! Thankfully, no matter what happens to G-Sync as we know it, it started the VRR race. So in the end, we all win. Hopefully it does become, as a whole, an open standard in all displays.

VRR is one of the most significant developments in gaming and display tech in damn near forever. So even having another G-Sync v FreeSync discussion is pointless and does nothing to move it forward. Just like spreading misinformation.

Isn't asynchronous compute simply supported by DX12 and not a requirement. It's merely one way of doing things. Everyone is going to defcon 1 every time this stuff comes up. I can't see a developer, especially one who's releasing a new installment of the very IP that put them on the map, would implement something that would cause the game to implode on 80% of the potential install base.

I have to agree, to a degree, that there is double standard going on when it comes to how AMD and Nvidia are perceived. I think what so many of you forget is that AMD, like nvidia, is a for profit company beholden to its shareholders. It's not an NGO distributing humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations. Let's also be honest here, AMD is and has been in pretty horrendous financial straits. From a business perspective they are a disaster right now and that's not projected to change for some months (and that's generous). The point is, if the market share #s were reversed I think the discussion would be very different.

Hopefully I'm not being too obtuse. I really think this thing is much higher level than dx12 or asc. Seems many have fallen into the way AMD has spun all of this.

Are you sure I'm the one spreading Fud? You're fanboyism doesn't let you see clearly... Again.

The only thing that Nvidia Gsync does better is Vsync, so I beg your pardon? Don't get mad at me for using facts when forming my opinion, unlike you who only take Nvidia's PR statements.

For anyone that's Lazy just go to minute 11:40, please keep considering Nvidia's statements like if they were coming from the Bible, is very amusing.

Also FreeSync is FREE, I can get a FreeSync perfectly Working 1440p 144Hz 1ms Acer XG270HU for 300$ (Last Amazon Sale), how much do the Gsync equivalent cost? even when using the same Panel it never gets below 500$, its FREE where it matters.

Also you talk about AMD FreeSync having issues at launch like if Gsync came flawlessly to the market, the FUD is strong, as strong as the fanboyism.

Oh, and don't mind the fact that thanks to FreeSync Monitors like the BenQ XL2730Z we do have complete 144Hz Strobing thanks to not having Gsync doing it.

EDIT: I'm eagerly waiting for your response to this, you always back up when you are proven wrong, third time on this thread alone. I want to see how you discredit LinusTechTips, or how 45FPS is the only thing that matters for VRR.

Yeah, unless the main motivation of G-Sync was to compete in the scaler industry, FreeSync has surpassed it in the consumer space with the addition of HDMI compatibility, imo. AMD has consecutively announced a boat load of extended display tiers, too. The monitor manufacturers will readily take advantage of this 'free marketing' gest of good will.
