We already have pascal on the way. What next? expect nvidia to still support and increase performance on fermi or microsoft to bring DX12 to vista?
Incredulity and slippery-slope arguments won't help Nvidia if AMD gains a wider support base for their exclusive performance benefits. Bluffing ignorance will only strengthen AMD's hand.

Async compute is not activated at this time AotS for Nvidia GPUs, let that sink in.
Also Nvidia can't do Async Compute the same way AMD can so probably we won't see a performance boost for Nvidia cards.

Since then AMD performance in tessellation went down hill, so it is now useless?

Amount of tessellation can be controlled by the developer. Many end up reducing it to not hurt AMD cards.

Its being used as a weapon. If AMD weakness was some other effect, would you honestly believe nvidia wouldn't tweak gameworks to exploit it instead? I say they would.

These examples show clear intent. And its only crysis 2. There are many many other examples.

Tessellated Sea. This its OK

The tessellated sea being kept rendered underneath the level. This is not OK

This mundane wall:

Is being rendered like this:

Reviewers response to these settings: "makes a world of a difference! Truly shines on nvidia hardware."

While we can't control what some questionable reviewers say.....the high-res texture pack that's a required install with the dx11 patch was responsible for the visual wow factors not tess.

But we can run the game in dx9 mode to eliminate poor performance regardless which brand of card is installed.

Game was developed with dx9 and patched with a dx11 mode and tess 4 months after the release date.

Was Crytek so eager to put dx11 features in, they didn't consider the usefulness or consequences of where they added it?

Or did Nvidia just tell them to splash it everywhere to ruin performance across the board?

I assume a little bit of both are true.

FWIW, the algorithm for DX11 tessellation is pretty poor. It isn't commonly used by developers. You can see it in the wireframe screenshots here how evident it is. A great presentation on it is this http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1020038/Advanced-Visual-Effects-with-DirectX. I wouldn't recommend using stock tessellation. You could create a compute shader that tessellated and produced better looking results and was faster.

if i remember correctly crysis 2 perform a ~10% less in amd gpus in dx9 and dx11, yea it had overuse of tessellation for sure but i don't think it was the main problem.. who started with that was probably just a fanboy talk trying to blame the opposite brand

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crysis-2-directx-11-performance,2983-5.html

anyway about hitman we will see if it gets some good framerate gains with this implementation, for now its just marketing to me

I had 6970 CFX and GTX 580 SLI during the Crysisi 2 fiasco, so I did my own testing. Max out, no AA, 1080p.

6970's dropped as low as 25 during large scenes and fights.
580's kept 80+ on average.

I then tested single GPU and the 580 was around 60% faster than the 6970 during real world testing.

AMD seems to be all over this game

The last Hitman game was an utter embarresment to the series. I hope this one is done right! At a guess I'd say it will be.

That is very true but 1300MHz+ is not common for Big Kepler. Most people where ~ 1200MHz range so ~ 10-20% more performance than the benchmarks shown. If you factor in overclocks my 290X OCed can beat Fury and match Fury X in a lot of games. It only it was that simple. The thing is that GTX980 Ti should not be 2x faster then Titan OG but in a lot of new games it is. Very crazy if you think about it since on the memory side it was only the improved 20-30%.
