Since yesterday it says I'm out of date but everytime it says there are no available updates. Am I unprotected?

I ran a norton power eraser and yet nothing ... :/

My best advice from my experience with "anti-virus" software is to stay away from subscription services and stick with M$ solution such as Microsoft Security Essentials or Microsoft Defender. I'm sure the "out of date" issue is from the service needing your credit card info to renew the subscription.

Ditch Norton and go M$.

EDIT: Forgot to mention both of the solutions I mentioned above are free. I've used Norton, McAfee, AVG, and Avast and M$ is by far the least intrusive and best for a Windows PC.
