Is dual channel still faster than quad?

Have I missed something in the past 8 years? ... every reviewer talks like quad channel is better.

Quad channel has twice the bandwidth as dual channel, so twice as fast. Why would dual channel be faster than quad?

Quad channel is also somewhat higher latency due to how its built, especially on haswell-E, as it has to pass through a buffer first. HW-EP and EX dies is even worse as its not a monolithic quad channel controller. Each controller is attached to one half of the cores on the die, with a buffer linking both core clusters together.

I used to be able to get higher RAM speeds with dual channel than quad and have never used quad since.

thats IMC limitations, it doesn't mean quad is slower than dual.
