Adding micro code to support newer CPU

Hello,
I am in possesion of a Toshiba L500-1ZP notebook and it comes with an i3 330M
I am looking to upgrade this system with a i5 580m

TDP die size are all the same however the system refuses to post (fan starts up then goes down and nothing happens)

can some one give me the right directions as to how i can add microcode to the bios so it will boot with the new i5 580?

thanks in advanced!

Be aware that changing the microcode will just allow the BIOS to recognize the new CPU, It has nothing to do with whether the new CPU will actually be usable with that BIOS. The BIOS has to have support for it in the first place.

The latest BIOS available from Toshiba will be the one that supports the latest CPUs If that BIOS supports an i5 580m, but just doesn't have the microcode to recognise it, then a BIOS hack will work, otherwise, no.

Well, not no, but it's pretty much way beyond the capabilities of mere mortals to rewrite a whole BIOS code.

Hi thanks for the info i managed to find out the following

This laptop doesn't support Arrandale core stepping K0. Many people tried to add support K0 to its BIOS without success.
CPUs with Arrandale core stepping C2 (CPUID:20652) are supported only:

i3-330M (SLBMD)
i3-350M (SLBPK)
i5-430M (SLBPN)
i5-520M (SLBNB)
i5-540M (SLBPG)
i7-620M (SLBPD)

Microcode for i7-620m already resides in the bios for that cpu
so im going to sell the i5 580m and buy the i7 620m instead they are practically the same in performance.
