At least now I can hold out til Skylake-E and 4k 120hz amoled monitors show up so I can at least have a noticeable improvement for the fortune being spent.
I wouldn't expect Skylake-E to come out any time soon. Kabylake will come out first I'm sure.

Same here. Skylake-E will likely be my last platform upgrade for the foreseeable future since M$ is dropping support for anything newer on Win 7.

IMO, with regard's to polaris/pascal, we're talking about a bleeding edge architectures, memory technologies, APIs, and process nodes here. I'd rather they take the time to make sure everything is ok because so many things can go wrong.

A quarter later is fine as long as they get things right out the gate.

DINGDINGDING we have a winner! thumb.gif

You guys remember 480 right? It went so horribly wrong because nVidia tried to do a big die with a new architecture on a new process right out the gate, and we all remember what happened.

Well besides that TSMC had some major issues with 40nm as well. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if Pascal/Polaris got delayed because TSMC failed yet once again. This is a company that had issues with every single node starting with 40nm, with no prior FinFET experience to boot. So yeah I'm keeping my expectations low.

If this is true, its just as I thought, another 600 series launch all over again, and that doesn't come as a surprise to me at all, sell mid range chips for the price of flagship, then once Titan X replacement drops charge all time high price for it, Nvidia is a business after all...the only thing that could prevent this from happening is if Polaris is good and AMD price it right, but I have a feeling that they'll pull a HD 7000 series and launch first, and for too high a price.

Be that as it may,the circle will spin in the same way. I see ppl trying to rub Titan X and even 980Ti owners noses in it, saying how going two GTX 1070 in SLI will be just twice as good a buy. Then, when 1080Ti drops and offers more than their 1070 SLI performance in a single card they'll wish they waited and bought that. Then same story all over again.
I am officially waiting for GP100 and that's it.

2x GM200 performance or bust.

Also HBM2 or bust, since I'm sick of wasting expensive thermal pads on those GDDR5 chips. (1st world watercooler problem tongue.gif)

Edit: damn typos

Too bad NV is not an option for me until they start supporting VESA Adaptive-Sync. There is no way I would pay 200 euros for G-Sync when it does the same as FreeSync. So hoping Polaris won't be far behind Pascal for release date.

I'm happy with 2 years gap beetween replacement parts - makes upgrading more managable financially for my crappy east european salary.

Too bad G-sync 144Hz IPSes are actually cheaper than freesync Eizo and G-sync Dell costs nearly same as Benq 2730Z but if you enjoy cheap crappy screens that don't have strobing then Freesync has you covered.

Meanwhile I'll be rocking my blur free display with big Pascal when it is released biggrin.gif

technically speaking a $100 mouse also does the same thing as a $10 one. I can't imagine my gsync monitor also not having ulmb and g-sync not working in borderless window. and what is the point of 144hz on amd card if you can't even reach or stabilize that fps because of the CPU overhead.
If any of those things I mentioned are improved or fixed in some way please correct me.

What are you talking about? My ASUS MG279Q has all the new features and costs 200+ less that g-sync counter part.

What is the the difference? AMD now has the whole range covered with Low Frame Rate Compensation, from 0 (or very low) to 144Hz

low blur mode?
borderless freesync?
is it even possible to get steady 120-140 fps on an amd card?
