Sorry if that is a dumb question, not so familiar with all these code names.

Or is it the one using GDDR5X?

GTX 1080 (GP104) = GTX 980 replacement but should be faster or on par with a GTX 980 Ti

GTX 1070 (GP104) = GTX 970 replacement but should be faster or on par with a GTX 980

The Tesla card isn't mean't for gaming but it is big Pascal. What the Titan X and GTX 980 Ti replacements will be based on.

That appears to be the most logical estimate I have seen so far. I am really hoping AMD and nVidia release pretty close to each other.

That would be pretty disappointing for a shrink.

I'd agree the X80 cards were historically high end, but I don't consider the 980 high end at all. Performance wise it felt more like a less expensive slightly better performing refresh of the 780ti (which was high end), but I expect a new line/card to greatly exceed the prior high end. 980s really should have been labeled 970s imho and been priced less than $500.

It better be faster than GTX 980Ti (by a good margin) or Nvidia have failed bigtime

Always thought Nvidia is going HBM2 for its high end line-up, that includes 980, 980Ti, Titan replacements.

Looks like I will have to wait much longer than expected. Wanted to get an HBM2 card from Nvidia. Was aiming for a 1080 but if it ends up using GDDR5X, will have to wait even longer.

It's nvidia we're talking about. They'll milk it big time.Compelling enthuasiasts to buy the GP104 or risk a hurt ego. Then release GP100 compelling ego driven users to upgrade to that. Sorry for being blunt but it's true.

what was wrong with it? the developer bias, the bad console ports or the Dx11 limitation?
