[BitsandChips] Nvidia Pascal lineup and launch dates - Page 22

I think I will wait for the 1080 to release, once it releases Ill check out the reviews and benches. If it is going to be an outstanding upgrade from my 290X, then I might possibly get it, if not then will wait for the Titan. However I do not wish to spend more than CHF 1000 on a new GPU. So if the Titan is going to overpriced, I might as well just wait a bit more and get the 1080Ti.

April 2016 - GTC: Tesla (GP100)

Anyone willing to shell out big bucks to give us an early indication of performance? If it has a video out that is...
Will be quite a pain since the Tesla drivers are totally different read non-optimized for games.

I guess render benchmarks could be of use once the card gets released.

The core count and clock speed should tell a fair bit, since Pascal isn't a major rework from Maxwell.

Those cards normally get released near the end of the card cycle. It'll be some time after the 1080Ti for that dual card to surface.

If they don't bring at least 2X over Maxwell, I'd be disappointed.

Nvidia is going to spread out the release of the Pascal cards. I doubt we get their best consumer Pascal card immediately, unless AMD puts pressure on them. So yes, I think the launch of the Pascal cards won't live up to the hype simply because of business practices. Most companies do this, and the master of them all is probably Apple, with their small incremental hardware upgrades spanning over several years.

I am waiting for Nvidias counter part to Fury Nano, a small card with HBM2 memory, and still faster than that today's 980ti, while having lower power consumption. That would be something for my SFF PC! Doubt it's gonna happen though.

^ This thumb.gif I feel the same way, I just said F it & got a 980ti a few months ago. I do not see Pascal or Polaris making to much headway against the current gen cards till we see the big dies & proper HBM2 on them. Which won't be till the very end of this yr. in the best case scenario. Also just like you said good luck to the early adopters who will have to deal with Pascal's & Polaris's growing pains. Personally I plan on waiting till the whole next gen line up has been released & been in the wild for a couple months before I start to think about upgrading to it. If need be I can always grab another 980ti on the cheap (since some of those early adopters will be desperate to get rid of theirs to upgrade rolleyes.gif) & run an SLI setup till I have enough info to make an informed choice on the next gen of video cards. biggrin.gif

So if my memory is working correctly, not too terribly long ago I remember reading something about Pascal acting as a stop-gap between Maxwell and Volta. Because of this, Pascal wasn't going to do the big chip / little chip thing. I want to say that was actually an official statement, rather than just random rumors.
Something tells me AMD isn't going to let Nvidia choose when to release their cards. The rumors been floating around that AMD will be first to market with their new gpu's and will be releasing 2 new dies, Polaris 11, and Polaris 10. Polaris 10 being the lower power cards for discrete gpus in laptops, and low / mid range gpus. Then Polaris 11 being a direct replacement for the Fury X, of course i suspect it will also come a few different variants.

Nvidia might be forced to release their big gpu's for the desktop market earlier than they expected to remain competitive. Of course that solely lies on AMD to force competition.

Whatever the case is I am ready for these new Gpu's. I will likely be upgrading within the first week of release. Need all the gpu power I can get with my new 4k screen. Been waiting for 14/16nm for a long time haha. Then again there is always that 1700$ amd flagship rumor, which if that is true AMD might be first to market with their big gpu and milk those sales for awhile. Of course when you hear people at AMD say things like "Most revolutionary jump in performance so far" to date their largest jump in performance came from the 4870 to the 5870 generation, the 5870 was about twice as fast as the 4870. It's really easy to get excited for these new gpus.

Same here! 28nm just need to go away already... Lol 4K screens are here for 60fps, VR is coming (potentially with promise), and here we are fooling around with yesterday's tech because the video card makers haven't been able to pull it together yet on the fab side. I can understand why AMD might have had an issue getting to market, given all the fuss about "its lack of resources" we heard so much about, what I don't get is why is the supposed market leader with so called 80% market share sitting on its laurels rather than pushing the market forward not just with marginal improvements through arch changes here and there, but through node shrink? I think I know the answer, but would love to hear how Nvidia factors that into its thinking as it distracted by a gazilion non core initiatives
