That's why I don't plan on buying a freesync monitor till there's actually interesting offerings out that don't cost 1k (and I don't want to just sidegrade to a slightly bigger monitor for a feature that I probably won't use as often as blur reduction).

At least time fixes these issues usually. Can't be that long till 144hz ultrawides at 500 bucks come out, considering we already see those in 34inch size with 75hz refresh rate and that pricetag.

Granted you shouldn't be going in that range especially with high end hardware, but minimum frame rates will occasionally dip below 40, that short time it does if you're on a freesync display, the experience is jarring. Meanwhile G-Sync takes steps to ensure the experience is as smooth as possible below 40fps.

Watch this video and learn:

The Crimson driver introduced LFC (low framerate compensation) which means that freesync now does exactly what gsync is doing in that video you linked.https://youtu.be/AXLXPiJpVGs?t=2323

I wouldn't have even responded to him, G-sync is dead already.

Interesting, nice going AMD!

The only remaining issue then is getting Nvidia to adopt Freesync. Something they are likely to never do. So ultimately we will still have a divide in the GPU market and vendor lock-in's. Folks with a NVidia GPU will still likely go for a G-Sync display. How many people are willing to also upgrade their display at the same time they upgrade GPU's?

I think the next xx80 or 1080 is going to be around 20-30% faster than the Titan X, maybe even over 30% faster.
It's going to need a lot of power to stay relevant in the market until the next GPU comes, since the Titan or big die GPU may come the year after instead of the same year.

The 680 is around this much faster than the 580.

You can see this by calculating the percentage increase from the 580 to the 680 in these benchmarks individually.

[TechPowerUp] GTX 680
[Anandtech] GTX 680 vs 580 - 2015 GPU Benchmarks

If you look at the performance summary for all resolutions on TechPowerUp's site you'll see that it's only 16%

[TechPowerUp] GTX 680 Performance Summary

I think something is throwing the average off, judging by the other graphs it appears to be the lower resolutions such as 1280x1024 and 1024x768.
The difference between the 580 and the 680 at 1280x1024 is 14%, and the difference between them at 1024x768 is 8%

I'm already seeing $550 shipped over on /r/hardwareswap thanks in part to the jet.com deals of $50 off and TR Code driving some used market pricing down a tad.

There was a christmas sale where they were going for $550, but right now the lowest i've seen is about $620 after rebate. June looks to be a good time to sell.

GP104 will be much faster, than 680 was over 580. And 980 was over 680.

Well you know there are also AMD cards thumb.gif

I am always confused when people already know what they are going to buy before they even know what the product actually is. I am definitely waiting for both Nvidia and AMD cards to come out and make my decision then.

Lol, I remember the LAST time guys were saying "wait, wait, just wait, wait til you see what's better, wait, don't do it, WAIT..." it was all noise...they bought the card that they wanted anyways, slower or not..
