Remember how GK104 (GTX 680) did against GF110 (GTX 580)? Which should be like GP104 (GTX 1080) vs GTX Titan X (GM200)

Here: https://tpucdn.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_680/images/perfrel.gif

Anything less than this over Titan X and I will be very dissappointed with Nvidia.

I will believe that once I see that. Considering AMD's current financial position, I doubt they would have the money to sponsor the majority of titles. Nvidia is much more fit for something like that.
Drivers support is simply awful and not frequent enough. Some games dont even get specific driver support, when they do its after me being already done with the game. The amount of known issues in each driver update is absurd and the list only gets longer with each new update. I am done with AMD for good.

Doesn't smell right.

That's the same thing folks said when I made the claim a month or two ago. I think HBM2 production might be partially responsible.

I mean nvidia only started this milking with the GTX 780. It wasn't done on purpose either. Nvidia were responding to the Hawaii release with the GTX 780 Ti. It worked well sales wise and appears to have become their standard practice now. Nvidia tend to wait for AMDs big GPU release before launching their big consumer card. Usually making their Titan card obsolete. This time nvidia have pushed back both the Titan and High End big GPU release which hints at HBM2 being the culprit. AMD pushed back big Polaris which also hints at HBM2 production limitations. We've also heard rumours about HBM2 being in short supply. Putting it all together it makes sense.

Finally escape 28nm only to be hampered by new memory tech availability. doh.gif

In all honesty, is HBM and GDDR5X really required for GP104?

Don't know, don't really care TBH. Referring to the top end cards.

GP100 will most likely have HBM2. What top end cards are you referring to?

It and Big Polaris, which is why I was talking about being hampered by memory tech.

edit: My current card is probably fine for this rig, but I'd like to replace the cards in my HTPC with hopefully a single card that can do 4k without a lot of compromises.

Sounds like nvidia is fixing to put amd out of business. I would be surprised if the delays and conflicting leaks have much of anything to do with production issues.
