Reliable BitsandChips have this to say today:
Quote:
April 2016 - GTC: Tesla (GP100)
June 2016 - Computex: GTX 1080 (GP104) & GTX 1070 (GP104)
4Q 2016 - GP106 & GP107
4Q 2016 or 1Q 2017 - Titan (GP100)
1Q / 2Q 2017 - GP108 (GM108 rebrand?)

It begins in April, with the Tesla board, based on GPU GP100, and dedicated to the HPC market. Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have already announced that they will make extensive use. The first dedicated to the consumer market cards, will be those with GPU GP104, always produced with FF16 node ++ TSMC. They should be submitted to COMPUTEX in Taipei, but the market should start only from 3Q 2016.

Makes sense. Tesla with HBM2 launch first, which will be bloody expensive but clients there can afford it. Then consumer cards in June.
And GP100 GTX Titan for consumers not ready until the end of the year or maybe even next year. So much for those waiting for that...

BAH, it means more waiting for us mortals

That's what I said before the information was released. GTX 980 replacement first, GTX 980 Ti/Titan X replacement later.

It will be the same for AMD/RTG. Mostly because BIG Polaris would outcompete Dual Fiji. I figured that AMD wouldn't release dual Fiji but since they are then BIG Polaris gets pushed back.

the thing is how would be the vram setup on the GTX 970 equivalent?

6-8GB GDDR5 or GDDR5x. I'm leaning on 8GB. 4GB shouldn't be seen on any nvidia card past mid range.

Titan X replacement I have a feeling will come out much sooner than GTX980 Ti. Maybe even before GTX980 replacement.

Yeah, I read that too. If not then the jump from GP104 to GP106 will be massive.

Im dissappointed.

I thought we would get GP100 first and GP104 later as per rumors suggested. But this new info say that GP100 aka GTX Titan X is a year away and we will have to settle with GP104 first. Which wont be available until atleast mid June considering it will be presented at Computex in the beggining of June.

I had plans to get the GP100 and live with that for 2-3 years and dont have any other single cards surpassing my card. Business as usual from Nvidia. Milk the market with gradually releasing faster cards. Damn you Nvidia

There is no way in hell ĂŚ`m waiting a freaking year so I may have to settle with the GTX 1080. Booo

I made the same mistake. Now I'm stuck with two mid range cards until the next Titan hits. I feel moving up to SLI 980tis would be a bad move for me but not sure if I can hold out.

Sorry if that is a dumb question, not so familiar with all these code names.

Or is it the one using GDDR5X?
The 980 is a mid-ranged card. A $500 card in the current market is now mid-ranged. Crazy right?

It will beat the living crap out of the GTX 980. Probably the GTX Titan X too. It will have the biggest Pascal chip that will be produced.
But prepare to pay probably like $5000-$10000 somewhere. And Im not even sure its possible to game with Tesla. You will have to wait til 2017 to get the consumer version of the Tesla, the GTX Titan, according to the source

Low end: GP108 and GP107
Midrange: GP106 and GP104
High end: GP104 and GP100

GTX 1080 (GP104) = GTX 980 replacement but should be faster or on par with a GTX 980 Ti

GTX 1070 (GP104) = GTX 970 replacement but should be faster or on par with a GTX 980

The Tesla card isn't mean't for gaming but it is big Pascal. What the Titan X and GTX 980 Ti replacements will be based on.

That appears to be the most logical estimate I have seen so far. I am really hoping AMD and nVidia release pretty close to each other.

That would be pretty disappointing for a shrink.

Performance wise it felt more like a less expensive slightly better performing refresh of the 780ti (which was high end), but I expect a new line/card to greatly exceed the prior high end. 980s really should have been labeled 970s imho and been priced less than $500.

It better be faster than GTX 980Ti (by a good margin) or Nvidia have failed bigtime

Always thought Nvidia is going HBM2 for its high end line-up, that includes 980, 980Ti, Titan replacements.

Looks like I will have to wait much longer than expected. Wanted to get an HBM2 card from Nvidia. Was aiming for a 1080 but if it ends up using GDDR5X, will have to wait even longer.
