I have a Corsair HX750 PSU that's over 5 years old. For the last week or so my computer has been randomly rebooting it self. I removed the side panel to get better cooling, but it still keeps rebooting it's self.
There were even times when it would reboot it self when the computer was starting up before Windows even started loading.
Given that information, I would lean towards a PSU problem. Most software issue will do a typical reboot, throw error messages, blue screen, etc. Some other hardware issues give errors or even start up beep codes.
But that instant snap off of the power is usually a PSU problem. I certainly couldn't say I'm 100% right without seeing it myself. I'm just saying the PSU sounds likely to me and I would investigate that further. Given the age of your unit, it's about time to buy a new one regardless.
The RM is not very good and its far far overpriced to a point thats its a massive ripoff, you have been cheated and there is a ton of options that are not only much better but also way cheaper
Send that RM back you dont want one in your system and its much worse then your old HX750 was so you have not upgraded you have downgraded
The EVGA SuperNova G2 the Corsair RMx (not the old RM) the XFX XTR the Antec Edge and the Cooler Master V are all better then the RM
Sory but you made a mistake by just buying something you thought was good without even checking or asking anyone if it was good (its not)
I wouldn't stress. I don't believe Corsair is selling a dangerous product. It's just not very good, especially considering it usually runs at a premium price. Hardocp gave it a fail. It didn't pass their load tests. Shilka's trying to convey that there are other options that cost the same or less and are better built units. Corsair unfortunately has a huge fan base that thinks everything they make is pure gold and they charge a premium price. Unless you follow PSU releases and reviews, most don't realize their buying a subpar product. On top of that, so many brands don't even make the units they sell making it difficult for buyers to tell if they are getting a good unit unless they do some investigating. Again, I don't believe the unit to be dangerous, it's just not very well built.
