That update does fix the long wait but unfortunately adds Windows 10 preparation as well. The long wait can be solved by installing most of the security updates or by integrating the updates you want via NTLite. My initial search is only 12 minutes at most now and subsequent update searches are a couple minutes at most. This way I don't have to install the preparation and telemetry BS M$ is trying to shove down our throats.

I tried to use win update for my dads laptop earlier this week. It found the list I needed quickly but then just got stuck on "updating" I left it for around 8 hours and when I got back it was still on 0%. I chalked it up to being on wifi but obviously not :/

Wish there was a manual update method.

Well as I said 0% doesn't mean it isn't updating. Maybe you've had some Internet troubles. But 8 hours is pretty much - much))

I've seen worse. Mums computer after doing a clean install took nearly 16 hours to install all the updates. Unfortunately it's another way to get people to shift to their latest malware offering. They are gimping it on purpose. Then they offer an update that fixes the long wait. But they put Windows 10 preparation on that update. So they say you wanna wait for ages then fine but heres an update that can help but we will shove Windows 10 down your throat whether you like it or not.
