Thread Starter
So my current motherboard (and a lot of Gigabyte mobos apparently) have this annoying and strange problem where on a cold boot, gpu performance is cut in half if my pci-e slots are set to gen3 in the bios. Setting it to gen2 fixed this problem completely but loses me about 10 fps in games which is pretty frustrating.

My options are basically:
1. Accept the 10 fps loss from pci-e 2.0 and wait awhile until broadwell-e/kaby lake;
2. Get a new z97 mobo and keep my current 4770k for ~$160;
3. Upgrade completely to a 6700k + z170 + ddr4 for ~$750.

Pretty sure my best bet is option 2 because my 4770k @ 4.6ghz probably has almost no difference to a 6700k, but I was thinking that I might as well upgrade to a new platform entirely if I swap mobos since its a hassle to do so anyways. Wondering what you guys think.

I mean.....it all comes down to what you want to spend. A new mobo is much cheaper, and you won't see 750$ worth of performance upgrade going to a 6700k and DDR4 (IMO). Then again, the 6700k is the new socket, and may use the same socket up to cannon lake if you want to upgrade again. Maybe look into how much you can sell your current CPU/mobo for to lessen the cost.
