Gigabyte XM300 Mouse - Page 55

I've gotta say the XM300 is a great budget mouse. I've been switching between EC1-A, XM300, and Deathadder. I think the XM300 is a good compromise between the EC1-A and Deathadder. The DA I just can't get a great grip on. If it wasn't for the grip I would use it. My EC1-A has very noticeable delay/lag. If Gigabyte would lower the lift off and fix the scroll wheel I wouldn't have any complaints.

What's wrong with your scroll wheel? I think some here said it rattles?

I remember these issues:
  • double clicking, caused IMHO by button design and tolerances when manufacturing, possible FW bug
  • wheel rattle?
  • steady effect light setting messes up 1000Hz USB
  • high LOD, can be reduced with a tape or beta FW, the tape trick is super easy I've already tried it and had it down to almost no lift off distance, I think lower LOD is a must for low sense FPS
  • button click differences between left and right button?
  • stuck buttons? FW bug?
  • messed up software

My mouse wheel rattles back and forth. I've gotten somewhat used to it. I may fix it but I don't really want to take it apart and use the spare feet just yet. I'm using the beta firmware and it's still a little high but not bad. 500hz here so I'm not sure about the 1000hz bug.
I get only a tiny movement front-rear which is caused by the right side not being secured enough and it probably sits inside a inverted U or I I with too high tolerance. Upside down same thing only a tiny bit of play in the wheel tapping it back into the mouse.
Moving wheel right to left is the worst due to the unsecured right side.
It sure would be nice for scrolling if there was zero play in the wheel in any direction.

The tape LOD trick works very well you should try it. I remember DAs needing the same thing. I just did it, easy 10s mod and my LOD is below 1CD biggrin.gif

Aaand I've ruined it, I pressed in the front glide so it gloes down and doesn't bump out and now the tape scratches the mousepad so I had to take it off. I would definitely recommend stacking the mouse feet or using the thicker white ones at least. The default ones barely stick out of the mouse. I could use even thinner tape buy come on GB.

The LoD on the XM is why I got the EC1-A, and for a larger bodied mouse (palm grip). Guess I'll have to try out the tape trick.

Yeah, I had rattle on my scrollwheel on the first one, but that didn't bother me too much. I was more worried about the double-clicking. This one is fine, but the side buttons still irk me. It's fine for normal use, but just not up-to-par for gaming. It's a shame as it's a very vital set of buttons for me.

Also, I have to disagree that the EC1-A is a IE 3.0 clone. It's very much a DA clone, as is the XM300, as is the new Lenovo gaming mouse and so on and so forth.

Its definitely not a must. I play with 52cm/360 and I dont have any issues with the LOD of 3988/3989 at ~3 CDs.

The software is the worst of this mouse quality, it's buggy and barely usable, the moment I try playing with effect LED it goes haywire.
Also by rapid clicking left and right I managed to get the left button stuck down, had to middle click to unstuck it a definite FW issue. And I just did it again, damn it. 100% replicable, just spam left and right button at the same time and the left button gets stuck. Great and now I also lost the right button after I unstuck the left one and can't get it to work again by clicking anything. WTH Gigabyte did you do with the FW, it's not even working like a mouse should frown.gif

Even after disconnecting the mouse I still don't have right mouse button, it's somewhere saved in the mouse memory, might have to unplug it for a long time or restart the PC or even reset to default with the buggy GB software...
Restarted PC, still no right mouse button, I've even checked with my own app, there are no events generated by the right click in Windows.

Guess what, tried changing CPI on the mouse, now all 4 LED lit up and it doesn't change any CPI at all biggrin.gif
My mouse is thus officially kaput right now due to some serious error in the default Firmware.

I bet it's not even the SW problem, it's the mouse FW causing the SW to hang up and show garbage etc.

Port change doesn't help. Letting it sit for a few hours to see if some memory goes out and mouse decides to work again.

Gigabyte: Nice design for medium sized hands up to 19/10cm but the build and design quality could be one step better and the firmware you ship it with bricks the mouse and causes your SW to go haywire as well.

And yes I reconnect IE3.0 and I do have a working right mouse button immediately, it's definitely XM300 FW bug.

100% bricked, tried a different PC with different OS and no GB software on it, still mouse behaves the same, can't change CPI, right button doesn't work as it should, spamming left right causes left to get stuck, clicking down left to drag and pressing right while dragging with left makes left dragging be stuck I don't even have to spam it's that simple to get the left stuck.

R.I.P. XM300, you've lasted 1 day. Guess I'm gonna order Rival 300 test that instead and return XM300 at the same time.
Any other ideas for a big, long hand mouse?

So far I've tried:
  • EC1, too small, bad side buttons, bad wheel, ...
  • Naos 7000, worst shape ever made, worst coating ever made
  • FK1+, not the best tolerances in build quality, stiff Huanos, not big enough ass more of a finger tip mouse IMHO
  • XM300, default firmware doesn't work as it should and it "bricked" the mouse

I've put away Rival 300 so far because of the rubber sides feel and poor quality which hopefully they fixed but who knows if new batches have more durable rubber.
DA is expensive and I hear nothing but bad stuff about Razer software for more than a decade along with the DA shape not being that great on the main buttons.

Someone said before that UpdateFW can reset mouse to default configuration but when I run it it just says wrong param which means it needs more input when being run and is meant to be executed via the GB SW frown.gif
Any other way to reset the mouse or what params to use to get the update working either reset or update to newer FW without using the GB SW? Can someone check what params are used with executing it via GB SW for update?

Strange. My samples (one from Amazon, one from Gigabyte) do both not suffer from any of those issues. Soft/firmware does work completely fine for me as far as I can tell. The only thing I noticed is that the front side button is a bit loose and does not click that well as the rear one. But otherwise it works flawlessly.

Maybe there are two different assembly lines at the Gigabyte facility, no idea biggrin.gif

Btw: compared the XM to the DA Chroma and found out that they are really similar to each other. The Razer has just a slightly wider bottom and thus feels more massive at the base. The LMB and RMB clicks are a bit harder, the travel distance is shorter and does not give me that tactile feedback as the XM does. But overall they are very similar.
Still won't work and it's been sitting disconnected for a day. It's definitely saved some values inside the mouse that completely mess up the firmware behavior.

I would bet you $10 I could brick yours if you lived nearby lol.

The mouse is OK as long as you never install the Gigabyte software and try changing lights and CPI on the mouse. The moment I did that the mouse started behaving badly and the software kept freezing. And the moment I tested rapid clicking of both main buttons at once and got the LMB stuck bug after which I managed to get the RMB get stuck forever no matter what. Can't change CPI, RMB doesn't work, SW doesn't work, LMB gets stuck down when dragging it and clicking RMB at least once at the same time.

The shape is good for medium hands up to 19/10cm but for larger ones the overly ergonomic shape is counterproductive for comfort. I refuse to pay the Razer premium price to get a crappy Synapse along with it... or did they fix the Synapse mess after all the years? Still I would rather try a small mouse like G Pro than Razer DA.

Maybe the FW is OK but the SW messes it up by saving some values at wrong places or order in the memory. Such as wrong number length say 32bit instead of 16bit, etc. But it's weird because at first it worked fine it is only later when trying different colors etc. it went haywire.

This is why I was trying Zowie before because they have no software at all and thus are mostly trouble free compared to other mice that have crazy SW made for them.
