Clarification on pointer speed values under 6/11 (except 5/11 lol)

So.

I keep seeing vague answers about this and I wanted some clarification on this.

Ex.

6/11 and 2000DPI
vs
3/11 and 8000DPI

How does this affect 2D and 3D applications?

In theory I would think it would make no difference at all for 2D (mouse pointer), but would make aiming 4x better in 3D applications (The turning angle per input count should be 1/4 compared to 6/11)

Anyone know for certainty?

Don't use windows to change sensitivity. Just do it in game, and keep windows at 6/11.

for mice with the 9800 or 3988 sensors, using higher dpi = more smoothing. i never bothered to figure out the boundaries for 9800, but for 3988 it's 4ms at 1550cpi and below, 8ms between 1600 and 3150, and 16ms above 3200.

yes in theory, but who knows whether windows screws something up with the scaling code. after all, it is windows.

yes. recently there was a lengthy debate in another thread discussing whether this is actually a good thing. imo, unless you use very high sensitivity (<15cm/360), something around 800 dpi is totally fine in terms of having sufficient granularity when aiming. and imo, for certain setups (e.g. g303 with raw input or rinput.exe) using 12000dpi and a very low in-game sens is totally fine as well

Ah right, thanks for the info. I'm upgrading to a g502 and was curious if the high DPI would be useful at all(got it for everything else, high DPI was just a bonus).

Play on high DPI in game with raw input, with low in game sens.

just pick a dpi that you're comfortable with for 2d/desktop
and use the same dpi in 3d

Why is there so much smoothing? The 3310 has 2ms right? And the FPS is 6,500 while the 3988 is 12,500 and has 4ms. Maybe there's a connection?

Windows sensitivity does not affect the turning angle per count, in-game sensitivity (+m_yaw/m_pitch) does that. Windows sensitivity is (if not buggy) the same as what A3090 and prior mice used for dropping CPI. You have a set CPI and you basically drop counts or divide the counts based on what you want as your resulting CPI. So, yes, if the game does not use raw input, Windows sensitivity affects your cm/360 but not the granularity. Most of the games, however, use raw input so Windows sensitivity doesn't even matter nowadays.

2 ms at @ 6500 is 13 frames, 4 ms at @ 12500 is 50 frames. I don't see the connection, except the arbitrary x2 for the duration~framerate.
